International migrant trafficking, wanted man arrested in Piacenza

The activity of the State Police continues unabated in combating migrant trafficking, a serious transnational crime for which only last November in Piacenza a Pakistani citizen was arrested by the Flying Squad, which had endangered the lives of twelve compatriots embarking on a mad escape from the police.

The investigation

In April, the French police concluded an important investigation against a transnational criminal organization based in Serbia with branches in other countries, dedicated to the trafficking of migrants of North African origin across the Balkan border. The operation ended with the arrest of numerous people through extensive judicial police activity.

The search for the fugitive

Over the last few weeks, the Paris Court had extended its search throughout Europe for a member of the criminal clan who had escaped capture, a thirty-nine-year-old Tunisian citizen, and the International Police Cooperation Service of the Department of Public Security found that the same could be in Italy, activating searches for him.

Following an information exchange between the Flying Squads, it emerged that the dangerous wanted man could be in the Piacenza area, therefore the Piacenza Flying Squad began extensive searches for the subject in the area.

Found in Piacenza

Yesterday evening, the man was identified in Piacenza and subjected to photo identification at the police station. At the end of the investigations carried out and the correspondence between the arrested person and the recipient of the European Arrest Warrant having been verified, the suspect was taken to prison for extradition procedures to France.

The criminal organization

The criminal organization to which the arrested person belongs is called EL TETWANI, in reference to the Moroccan city from which the leader of the clan comes, and is mainly active in Serbia, where it deals with the crossing of the borders of migrants coming from the Maghreb via the Balkan route, between Serbia and Hungary.

The people being trafficked are mainly Tunisian citizens who cross the border with false identity documents, while the criminal organization takes care of sending the genuine documents directly to France via postal courier, which the migrants only regain possession of when they arrive beyond the Alps. .

Active on social media

The criminal group uses modern social networks to publicize their activity, and today’s arrest would have been responsible for promoting the criminal organization via the internet, as well as sending identity documents and maintaining contacts within the clan.

Investigations are continuing to understand the reasons for the subject’s recent arrival in Piacenza and what activities he carried out during his stay in this Province.
