Ferrara A cat kept for a second night in the veterinary clinic, in the words of the owner as a “hostage” for the failure to settle the agreed fee following taking charge and urgent therapies; for the clinic in question, however, it was just a matter of completing the therapy cycle. The fact is that the matter came to an end yesterday morning, when the owner of the feline was accompanied by the Carabinieri of the Forestry Unit and showed up at the clinic in question and obtained the “restitution”. “It doesn’t end here,” said the owner, “I will file a complaint with the police because this treatment caused serious stress to my two-year-old daughter, who cried all night because she wasn’t able to bring home the cat she is particularly fond of.” In this case, the investigators should investigate an alleged misappropriation, as the law clearly does not recognize the possibility of retaining an animal for non-payment of a service, given that the paths to obtain the settlement of a debt are well defined.
It all starts, the owner told the New, Sunday morning around 9am when “my cat, feeling very ill”, was rushed to a veterinary clinic, given that the trusted vet was closed on the public holiday. The man signs the estimate of 690 euros for two days of hospitalization, blood tests and x-rays. The clinic calls on Tuesday “for resignation”, reports the owner, who goes with his wife and daughter. When he reports to the clinic that he doesn’t have the money to pay, and proposes to pay in three tranches, the case breaks out: “They didn’t want to give me the cat anymore, and my daughter was desperate,” he says. Yesterday the decision to contact the police was a happy ending.
From the clinic the version of events coincides only with the non-payment of the fee. «The cat was not discharged the first time because he had to undergo therapies, and others must follow at home»: in short, he had not yet been discharged.
