2024 in Caserta will be remembered as the year of construction sites. The municipal administration has planned forty-four. All financed with Pnrr funds. All to be completed by the end of 2026. Among those already open, which the organization expects to complete by September, include the redevelopment of Piazza Vetrano in Falciano – where, among other things, the resurfacing and lighting are planned , a fitness area, rides and video surveillance for a cost of around 600 thousand euros – and the regeneration of Piazza Madonna delle Grazie in Vaccheria, recipient of an intervention worth around 130 thousand euros for the arrangement of the paving, the replacement of the old bollards in stone, the installation of benches, planters, as well as new lighting. The construction site of the villa of Santa Maria delle Beatitudes in the Parco degli Aranci is also progressing. The project here involves the recovery of the gazebo and brick seats, new games and the removal of architectural barriers. Total cost 130 thousand euros. The cost of the leash in via Fleming in Centurano amounts to 100 thousand euros. The works have been assigned but the construction site is stopped in via Rossini, where rides, furniture, fountains, lighting, arrangement of green spaces and an irrigation system are planned for a total of 100 thousand euros. A week ago the construction site for the reconstruction of the cycle path appeared in Via Unità Italiana and Viale delle Medaglie d’Oro.

The urban regeneration works of the Acquaviva district to be carried out as part of the Pinqua for which the Municipality has obtained almost 15 million euros will start on 6 May. Yesterday the technical inspection was carried out to verify the state of the premises. According to what has emerged, we will proceed step by step starting from the road axes and sidewalks, to then proceed with the houses in via Arno and via Acquaviva, which will close at the same time, the cycle path and finally the street furniture. Slightly longer times however for the completion of the road connecting via Acquaviva and via Feudo while waiting for the variation to the Prg and for the construction of the underground car park in via Feudo for which the executive project will be approved shortly. Meanwhile, the design for the expansion works of the “Palavignola” has just been delivered. We will have to wait until the end of June for the demolition and reconstruction of the “Ruggiero” middle school in via Trento. Among the construction sites that are about to start, the administration announces those for the redevelopment of Piazza dei Colli Tifatini in Pozzovetere, Piazza Chiesa in Casola, the space in front of the church of San Rocco in Casertavecchia and for the release station in Via Gemito. The demolition and reconstruction of the former Radice school in via Roma is scheduled for this summer. For the 300 students of the complex, ten classrooms in the Duomo and five in via Barducci will be ready for the entire duration of the works. The tender for the redevelopment of the library in via Laviano has just ended, while the tender for the works on the cemetery will be issued in May. The expansion of the premises of the Lorenzini school in via GM Bosco will begin within the year for the construction of a refectory, the architectural, plant and static recovery of the nursery school in viale Cappiello, and the construction of the new teaching center in via Patturelli. In the sports field, the restyling of the baseball field in San Clemente and the construction of an athletics track at Parco degli Aranci are planned. The regeneration of the Giaquinto villa and the redevelopment of the equipped area of Largo Martiri in Via D’Amelio will follow. Finally, the tenders for Sant’Agostino and the former Sant’Antonio orphanage are well underway.

«The city will soon change its face – says the councilor for public works, Massimiliano Marzo – and this is thanks to two and a half years of work which has highlighted the administration’s ability to intercept funds and implement projects, despite the bureaucratic delays and shortage of staff.” But Antonio Massimo Iannone of the “Città Viva” committee argues: «We would have expected to be involved by the Municipality in this process of starting construction sites in the Acquaviva district to share the timing of the works, in particular those planned in the villas, which will deprive the district for a long time of usable green spaces”. Councilor Pasquale Napoletano (Fdi) is also critical: «The problem is not the construction sites but the timing. In this city you never know if and when the works that are started will be completed. There are many examples of construction sites opened and immediately interrupted.”
