The port of Ancona

ANCONA – The police intervened around 8 am this morning, May 4, at a shipyard in the port of Ancona, where an accident involving a worker had been reported. Once the police arrived on site, they made contact with one of the two workers who was at the scene at the time of the accident.

The man, of Romanian origin, told the police that he was working on the construction site with a colleague, a 42-year-old of Bangladeshi origin, when suddenly an explosion occurred. The Romanian told the police that while his colleague was using a torch, the sparks produced by the work tool would have hit a part of the construction site inside which there was gaseous and therefore flammable material.

The substance would have been at a lower level than the floor on which the Bengali was working and the sparks produced, in contact with the flammable substance, would have caused the explosion which would have blown up the cover.

The Bangladeshi worker would have been hit in the arm by the manhole blown due to the explosion. The man was immediately helped by his colleague who remained unharmed. The worker suffered injuries to his arm but his life is not in danger. The police alerted the medical personnel who transported the injured man to the emergency room of the Torrette regional hospital.
