CHARLOTTE, NC (theACC.com) – Boston College, Notre Dame, Syracuse and Virginia earned quarterfinal victories Wednesday at the 2024 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Lacrosse Championship, hosted at American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Top-seeded Syracuse started the day with a 17-8 win over No. 9 Louisville. No. 5 Virginia got a key save in goal from Mel Josephson in the final minute to hold on for a 13-12 victory against No. 4 North Carolina. No. 2 Notre Dame held off No. 7 Clemson, 14-12, and reigning ACC champion Boston College, the No. 3 seed, rolled past No. 6 Duke, 19-5, in the nightcap.
The semifinals feature four of the top six teams in the nation and will be contested Friday, with fourth-ranked Syracuse playing sixth-ranked Virginia at 5 pm and second-ranked Notre Dame taking on third-ranked Boston College at 8 pm Both regular- season contests were one-goal games, with Syracuse winning at Virginia and Notre Dame prevailing at Boston College.
The championship game will be played at noon Sunday. ACC Network will broadcast all three games.
All-Session ticket books for the ACC Championships in both men’s and women’s lacrosse are available for $50 and can be purchased HERE. All-Session passes are good for all 10 games in the ACC Women’s Lacrosse Championship as well as the ACC Men’s Lacrosse Championship, which will be held May 3 and 5 in Charlotte.
Individual Session tickets for the ACC Championship are available online HERE. One ticket gains admission for all of the games on that respective day. Children 2 and under are admitted free of charge.
No. 1 Syracuse 17, No. 9 Louisville 8
Emma Tyrrell scored four goals and added a pair of assists, while Emma Ward recorded a hat trick and assisted on another goal as top-seeded Syracuse (13-4) pulled away in the second half for the win over No. 9 seed Louisville. Kylea Dobson and Rian Adkins each recorded hat tricks for the Cardinals, who recorded their first-ever ACC Tournament win Sunday and finished the season with an 8-11 record.
No. 5 Virginia 13, No. 4 North Carolina 12
Kate Gallica and Mackenzie Hoeg each recorded hat tricks as the Cavaliers (14-3) defeated the Tar Heels (10-6) for the first time since the 2014 season, snapping a 14-game losing streak to UNC. Mel Josephson recorded 11 saves for Virginia, but none bigger than a point-blank stop of a Kiley Mottice shot with just 36 seconds remaining in the game. Mottice scored three goals for UNC. Neither team led by more than two goals at any point during the tight battle.
No. 2 Notre Dame 14, No. 7 Clemson 12
Jackie Wolak scored four goals and dished out three assists, and Madison Ahern also scored four goals as Notre Dame (15-2) knocked off Clemson (11-7) to win its 10th straight game and reach the ACC semifinals for the fourth straight season . Regan Byrne and Summer Agostino each scored a pair of goals for Clemson, while goalkeeper Emily Lamparter racked up 11 saves.
No. 3 Boston College 19, No. 6 Duke 5
Rachel Clark scored four goals and added an assist in BC’s big win over Duke. The Eagles (14-3) also received a hat tricks from Kayla Martello and Belle Smith, and Mckenna Davis added a pair of goals and three assists. Caroline DeBellis recorded a hat trick in a losing effort for Duke (10-8).
