Asbestos alarm in the Brignano area of Salerno. Some residents of the area, after having noticed the presence of some workers on top of the warehouses of the former Ceramiche D’Agostino, expressed fears about the possible presence of asbestos. The municipality of Salerno, in a note, responded to the concerns raised by citizens by making known the clarifications of the municipal police command.

As the communication recalls, a part of the Ceramiche D’Agostino warehouses were subjected to seizure by the Environment Unit of the Municipal Police Command directed by Commander Rosario Battipaglia and coordinated by Captain Mario Elia. Following the operations carried out by the Command, Mayor Vincenzo Napoli issued the compulsory measures to remove the asbestos roofing.

“In compliance with the Union Ordinances, the company that owns the warehouses proceeded to request the authorizations from the ASL by presenting the required documentation and the relative timetable. – we read in the note – Having obtained authorization from the ASL, the company requested release from seizure from the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Salerno granted on 03.25.2024”.
Following the removal of the seals by the Environment Unit staff on 10 April, the operations planned for the removal of all existing asbestos began.
“These operations are carried out by a specialized company with highly and specifically qualified personnel and under the control of the ASL and the Environment Unit staff, as delegated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Staff from the Environment Unit itself and the ASL – Northern Work Environments Operational Unit – has already carried out the competent checks by inspecting the areas subject to reclamation, noting the correct setup of the construction site for the reclamation of the roofing slabs, in compliance with safety and accident prevention regulations and noting the regular reclamation of the material containing asbestos already removed. Monitoring remains continuous by the ASL, which at the end of the reclamation works will send all the documentation to the Judicial Police of the Environment Unit for subsequent forwarding to the Public Prosecutor’s Office”, conclude from the Municipality.
