Brescia. There the headquarters of Polgai of Brescia will remain in via Veneto. “I thank Minister Piantedosi for having given a rapid response to a need of the city. It is a historical reality, present for over fifty years in the heart of Brescia. A transfer would not have been understood by the citizens”, said the Brescian League MP Simona Bordonali who during the question time in the Chamber received an answer from the Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi on the possible transfer of the school to Montichiari.
Bordonali recalls that last February 28, on the sidelines of the swearing-in of 206 new student agents of the State Police, a discussion was held between the Northern League parliamentarian, the institutional representatives of the territory and the head of the Pisani Police on the hypothesis of transferring the school to the decommissioned ‘Serini’ missile barracks in Montichiari. “I made clear to the Government the importance that the school has for the city. The rationalization of costs is understandable, but it is also necessary to take into account the importance of these structures in the urban fabric and it was necessary to find a solution also to provide an answer to the students”, added Bordonali.
The current headquarters of the Brescia State Police School is the subject of a rental contract between the State Property Agency and a private company. With a note dated 15 April, the Ministry of the Interior confirmed to the State Property Agency the need to use the property for the needs of the School also in the future. The State Property Agency is, therefore, defining new contractual conditions for the School’s permanence in that location. “Leaving that property vacant would have been complicated given the urban regeneration problems affecting numerous structures in the city. Having hundreds of young students attending Brescia is a source of pride and an element of safety. The school also offers numerous services to the police and local police. This is therefore excellent news for all the people of Brescia” concludes Bordonali.
“The permanence of the police school in via Veneto is excellent news for the city” add Brescia city councilors Fabio Rolfi and Michele Maggi in a comment released to the press. “We thank Simona Bordonali for the result achieved. While Mayor Castelletti only cared about complaining in newspapers and on TV, someone worked to maintain the service in the city. Moreover, having another empty property close to the historic center would have been complicated given the serious urban regeneration problems of the city and the total inaction of the council on this issue too. The governing League has given a concrete response to Brescia by maintaining a reality that has been an integral part of the urban fabric for 50 years and also offers services to law enforcement agencies and local police”.
