The initiative, carried out jointly with the city section of the ANPI and the Cerrese Renaissance Committee thanks to a project promoted by ANCI and the Lombardy Region, is the result of a process that involved around a hundred students. «As a first step – the students themselves explained during the inauguration – we listened to the stories of some 20th century characters from some fifth year students of the tourism instituteto then compare and integrate our notes with the information searched on the internet and obtained from the book “A look at the 20th century from Cerrese and Cantalupera” by Professor Giuseppe Proverbio. We have then visited the cemetery to see the monuments and tombs of the characters we dealt with for this work. Finally, divided into groups we have reworked the stories that you can read on the panel and listen to in an extended version by scanning the QR code and accessing the e-book. We also created some drawings, some of which are the result of multiple ideas.”

Everything is talked about three multimedia panels and a commemorative plaque, located respectively at the cemetery and at the memorial stones in via Marelli and via San Clemente and at the church of the Capuchin friars. «It’s nice that our young people are making us aware of our history, our roots and our traditions – underlined the councilor for public education Daniel Dibisceglie -. I must say that for some time now our schools have been following paths to discover the history of our municipality, its excellence and local traditions. The memory of the hidden Cerro is such because only few are aware of these stories and thanks to the guys with these plaques this journey down memory lane will continue or live on for the next generations. Cerro Maggiore has many stories to tell, the kids accompanied by the teachers set out on a journey and starting from the 1900s they found people and places to tell and today we inaugurate this journey which, thanks to their commitment, will make all citizens and all those who want live it together with us.”

«The testimony of these panels is something truly important – added Mayor Nuccia Berra, addressing the students -: for us today it may seem obvious, but in one hundred or two hundred years kids like you will be taken to see these plaques and it will be explained to them what they mean. I think that the important thing is to leave a mark in history, even a small one but which bears witness to your workyour desire, your curiosity to rediscover our roots and pass them on to those who come after us.”

The inauguration ceremony of the panels was also an opportunity to remember some of the architects of that city history to which the children have dedicated themselves in recent months. «Together with your teachers you have written a beautiful page for Cerro Maggiore – highlighted Ambrogio Proverbio of the ANPI board of Cerro Maggiore and Cantalupo, who also launched an appeal for peace in Ukraine and the Gaza strip -. In Cerro Maggiore we have three deportees who died in Mauthausen buried in the Resistance mausoleum, three women deported to Auschwitz Birkenau who then returned, and several partisans, of whom seven are also buried in the mausoleum. They are martyred partisans, who died in the field: the first to die, Enrico Pattani, had just turned 20. They dedicated their lives to our freedom. Yours is a great contribution to the many of previous generations who are forgetting history».
