Ancona, 25 April 2024 – Next Monday, April 29, the new stones with the correct Latin engraving and the next day, April 30, in the afternoon, the inauguration of the Seafront of via XXIX Settembre. From the snag related toerror in the epigraph copied to the ground from what was reported on the Arch of Trajan at the ribbon cutting of a work that has passed through two administrations: “It will be a great celebration and a way for the people of Ancona to reclaim their walk from Mandracchio to the statue of Trajan – it is the councilor for public works Stefano Tombolini who gives the news – We feared that the problem that emerged last week and the bad weather could cause a delay compared to the timetable that we had set ourselves together with the mayor and instead we should do it. We will do everything to ensure this inauguration goes as planned.”
Same thing yesterday morning Tombolini, accompanied by the manager of the public works service, Stefano Capannelli, wanted to carry out an inspection in via XXIX Settembre precisely at the offending point, i.e. where the work on the ground with the engraving dedicated to the emperor Trajan was created; in practice the repetition of what is reported in the historical arc of the same name.
At the time of applying those stones no one had noticed a trivial but serious mistake at the same time: instead of writing Caesarians the word had been carved Dairies. A trivial slip of letters, enough to make urgent intervention is required. The offending stone was removed from the flooring yesterday and in these days the company that had handled the contract will have to create the new engraving, trying to avoid other errors, which can absolutely happen, avoiding other carelessness: “This time we will all be much more careful – admits councilor Tombolini who then announces a sort of road map until the afternoon of April 30th – The new corrected stone will be applied on Monday morning and other small details will be sorted out in view of the grand inauguration the following day. All construction tape will be eliminated and the walk from Mandracchio, where the walkway begins, to the Bank of Italy will be completed. At 5pm we will cut the ribbon together with the mayor and the other authorities.”
The hope is that the decoration will also be restored in the final part of the route, in the shadow of the statue of Trajan after the inspection that Carlino carried out last week, highlighting various critical issues. The work was started by the old administration and the current council inaugurates it after making some changes. Fortunately, these do not include the fascist style fasces and the stone eagle currently in the civic art gallery which it was assumed could be placed right there.
