MAO – creation of a mandala

From Friday 26th to Sunday 28th April from 10am to 6pm the MAO is pleased to host the event “The Mandala of Prosperity”, organized by the Fedinsieme association and the Tibet House of Culture.

For three days, visitors to the museum will have the opportunity to attend the creation of a send it of sand by a group of Buddhist monks of the Tibetan Geluk tradition.

That of send ita source of beauty and perfection that represents one of the highest artistic and spiritual expressions of the Buddhist tradition, is a practice that involves the construction of a complex design composed of geometric shapes inscribed in a circle through the use of sand of various colors, each with its symbolic value.

The result of a tradition dating back over 2500 years ago, this practice is linked to the concepts of prosperity, peace, harmony and above all to the idea of impermanence and detachment from material things: after having worked for days on the composition of the work, in fact, the monks authorized to carry out the practice celebrate the dissolution ceremonyduring which the sand that makes up the mandala is dispersed in water or distributed to the people present at the ritual.

During the event at the MAO, the creation phases of the send it will alternate at moments of recitation of sutras And mantra propitiatorsfinally culminating in destruction of send it Sunday 28 April at 5pm.

WE TRANSFORM COLLECTIONS INTO MANGA!

MAO – guided tour and workshop

By Theatrum Sabaudiae

The visual language of manga, known throughout the world in its contemporary development, represents a very rich figurative genre whose origins span centuries of Japanese artistic culture. The guided tour of the MAO gallery dedicated to Japan will focus on some groups of works from the collection to appreciate in particular the expressive strength and energy of the pictorial style in a variety of manifestations, from large screens to polychrome prints ukiyo-e.

The style drawing workshop follows manga edited by Marco and Mattia Boetti. Inspired by the works on display, the experience will continue with an educational workshop aimed at the participants’ creation of their own interpretation of a Japanese art subject from the museum’s permanent collection, previously selected for the occasion by the artists, using graphic signs of the manga style.

The activity includes an introductory moment in which specific technical notions will be provided on the use of some characteristic features for the development of characters and natural environments starting from schemes composed of squares and rectangles; each participant will then be guided in the practical execution to experiment your creativity and put yourself in the shoes of a mangaka.

At the end of the workshop, each student will bring with them, as a reminder of the experience, their own drawing made in pencil and “inked” using ballpoint pens (biro).

Marco Boetti graduated in Illustration at the European Institute of Design in Turin and followed in-depth courses both on the main artistic techniques in this field and on graphics and teaching. He collaborates with public bodies (Italian and foreign), private individuals and publishing houses, specializing in naturalistic illustration and teaching, creating drawing workshops for children and beginner adults, panels for parks and museums, murals, dioramas and trompe-l’œil, posters and targeted graphic projects.

Mattia Boetti graduated in graphics and advertising at the A. Cravetta – G. Marconi Institute in Savigliano and dedicated himself to in-depth studies in the same field. He creates targeted graphic projects, educational drawing and educational workshops for beginner children and adults, panels for parks and museums, murals, dioramas and trompe-l’œil with acrylic technique, wine labels and projects for publishing. Among the main collaborations, we mention: British Museum, Natural History Museum, Tate Britain (London) – Municipality of Genoa for the project Io vivo qui (in collaboration with the cultural association Amistà) – International Children’s Library Edmondo de Amicis and Orto University botanist (Genoa) for the Euroflora ’06 exhibition – Filatoio di Caraglio (Cuneo) on the occasion of the Texture exhibition by photographer Steve McCurry (in collaboration with the cultural association Artea) – Civic Museum of Natural History of Piacenza (2023 , with the patronage of the Ministry of the Environment) and of Ferrara – Capellini Geopaleontological Museum (Bologna) – CUFA Forestry and Agri-food Unit Command (Rome) – Accademia dei Georgofili (Florence) and Keith Art Shop Café (Pisa) – RCS Editorial Group, Hobby & Work Publishing (Milan) – Tables for the Regional Natural Park of Portofino dell’Aveto (Genoa) and the Ligurian Alps (Imperia).
