Here it is the first seasonal hat-trick by Lorenzo Musetti. To which the air of Sardinia it’s definitely good: beats Daniel Galan 6-1 6-4 and qualifies for the Challenger final in progress a Cagliari, where he will find one among Luciano Darderi and Mariano Navone (and it will be an unprecedented comparison with both). For the first time since the beginning of the season, the Tuscan achieved three consecutive victoriesdemonstrating that he has regained his nerve and confidence in view of the key events on the land of Rome and Pariswhere also by virtue of the flat rate of Sinner (hoping it limits itself to Italian internationals) Lorenzo he will have some more responsibility to drag the Italian contingent until the last week.
Musetti on the rise: first final after a year and a half
Against Galan the proof of Musetti it was definitely convincing, certainly much more so to the previous two in the Cagliari tournament. The Colombian, who also had good hopes of being able to advance to the final round (he had not played the quarter-final with Fucsovics, since the Hungarian had withdrawn due to a physical problem), he was unable to stem the Carrarino’s vervewho conceded just one break point (which was also converted by the South American) during the second set, but managed to break his rival 4 times.
Excellent percentages with the first serve (served with 67%, while the points won read 74%), while with the second one things went a little less well, but still better than what was done by Galan (47% vs. 43%). Only in the finale Musetti struggled a bit to keep his serve in games, but in general the sensations that emerged along the way were positive beyond any reasonable doubt.
So that after a year and a half he will return to play in a final tomorrow: the last one was a Naples in October 2022, when on outdoor concrete (which did not fail to raise controversy due to the humidity which made it very slippery when the sun went down) he beat Matteo Berrettini.
First set by the book, some thrills at the end of the second
Galan, which also represented a rather insidious obstacle, he literally imploded during the first set, in which Musetti he found 5 consecutive games (including two on the Colombian’s serve) showing great ease of execution.
The second one is much more contested, in which the Tuscan immediately collected break points, winning the game on the opponent’s serve in the seventh, but making huge mistakes in the following game, lost to zero. But in the ninth game once again Galan he showed a bit of insecurity when serving and Lorenzo immediately took advantage of it, deservedly earning the chance to serve for the final 6-4.
