2024 edition of “Carpi in Musica”

CARPI – Dee Dee Bridgewater Quartet, Mike Stern & Randy Brecker Band, Mauro Pagani and Paola Turci with Gino Castaldo: they are the big names of “CarpInMusica” 2024, the event organized by the Municipality, in collaboration with ATER Fondazione, as part of “La Carpi Estate”, which will take place from 1 July to 28 August.

Four concerts

The program has been approved by the Council, and tickets for the four paid concerts will soon be available for purchase (single price €12 and unassigned seats): the sale will in fact start on Saturday 18 May, at Incarpi (from Tuesday to Sunday 10am – 18, closing time 5.30pm) or online on the Vivaticket circuit.

The calendar, curated by the artistic director of the municipal theater M° Carlo Guaitoli, includes 14 concerts, ten of which are free, distributed in the traditional venues of Piazzale Re Astolfo (“CarpIinJazz” and “Mundus”) and the courtyard of honor of the Palace by Pio (“CarpInClassica” and “The Guitar Week”).

Here is the detailed program of the new edition (shows start at 9.30pm, public entrance at 9.00pm):

CARPINJAZZ

To inaugurate the jazz programme, on Saturday 13 July, the paid concert of Dee Dee Bridgewater Quartet “meets” Medit Orchestra (conducted by Angelo Valori). In the all-female quartet, in addition to the American jazz legend, there are Carmen Staaf (piano), Evita Polidoro (drums) and Rosa Brunello (double bass).

The following week, Friday 19 July, it’s The Swingers Orchestra’s turn with the “Duke Ellington in Harlem” concert. Finally on Tuesday 30th July the duo formed by Mike Stern & Randy Brecker Band, the first a guitarist, the other a trumpeter. This is also for a fee.

MUNDUS

There will be two events – both paid – as part of “Mundus”, the event curated by ATER: on Thursday 4 July Mauro Pagani, multi-instrumentalist, composer and record producer, who was part of the legendary PFM (“Premiata Forneria Marconi ”) and has collaborated with many other Italian authors and musicians, from De André to Ligabue, from Vecchioni to Guccini. In Carpi, Pagani will bring his own “Crêuza de Mä”, a record published in 2004, re-proposing the one written twenty years earlier with Fabrizio De André, with lyrics in Genoese and Mediterranean sounds.

On Wednesday 24 July, the show with live music by Paola Turci and Gino Castaldo, “Il tempo dei Giganti”, dedicated to the years 1979, 1980 and 1981, the three magical years of Italian music: stories, period films to remember the masterpieces by Dalla and Battiato, iconic songs by De André, Vasco Rossi, De Gregori, Paolo Conte, hits by Bennato, Pino Daniele, Fossati, Battisti.

CARPINCLASSICA

It will be a classical concert to inaugurate the “CarpInMusica” program on Monday 1st July with the music of van Beethoven, Waxman, Brahms interpreted by Mattia Pagliani (violin) and Nicole Costoli (piano). A week later, the “Gate Duo”, i.e. Simone Bellagamba (saxophone) and William Belpassi (piano) will play Lòpez, Eychenne, Bédard, Creston, Fitkin. On Monday 15 July, Chihiro Nagumo (mezzo-soprano) accompanied by Hiromasa Tabata on the piano will perform music by Schumann, Liszt, and Strauss. On Monday 22 July it will be the turn of the “C3-ChiesaCellosCremona” project, namely Silvia Chiesa – internationally renowned concert pianist and teacher at the Cremona Conservatory, who will perform with her cellist students on music by Bach and Villa-Lobos. Monday 29 July, female duo composed of Margherita Russo (flute) and Nicole Pedroni (harp) for WA Mozart, C. Saint-Säens, M. Ravel, G. Briccialdi. Finally, on Monday 6 August piano concert (music by M. Clementi, L. van Beethoven, F. Chopin) by the young talent from Correggio, Carlo Alberto Bacchi, 23 years old.

THE GUITAR WEEK

August, as per tradition, rhymes with guitar. The “six string” artists will be the protagonists of the “Guitar Week”, actually three concerts, one per week: Monday 12th, Wednesday 21st and Wednesday 28th.
