«He tried to steal a perfume», Piero Fassino now risks prosecution: I wanted to pay

In the end Piero Fassino was reported for attempted theft of a perfumecost 100 eurosin the Duty free shop ofFiumicino airport. It happened last April 15th, Monday. The PD parliamentarian, former Minister of Justice, was walking inside the shop in the Roman airport, waiting for his flight to Strasbourg. The complaint was collected by the airport police, Polaria, who will now forward it to the Prosecutor’s Office.

On Monday 15th in Strasbourg Fassino had an important commitment: the work of the Italian delegation at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, of which Fassino is head of the Middle East Committee. The dynamics he carries with him the story of the theft contradictory versions.

What is certain is that the perfume packaging is slipped into the pocket of the jacket that Fassino was wearing at that moment. The PD parliamentarian has a clear explanation: «I took that perfume from the shelf, I wanted to give a gift to my wife. Then my phone rang. I had a trolley in my hand and, not having three hands to take the phone, I simply placed the perfume package in my jacket pocket while waiting to go to the checkout.”

Was “Daily fact» who revealed the story, to reconstruct that Piero Fassino would have past the registers and the anti-shoplifting checks with the perfume still in your pocket. If so, the sound of the alarm would have been inevitable. The parliamentarian’s version is different.

Fassino says: «As soon as I let the package of the jacket slide, a man approached me security officer. She immediately contested the deed and has it reported to a police officer». Reconstructing the events, the parliamentarian is sincerely dismayed: “I have never appropriated anything in my life.”

It is not easy to imagine a politician like Piero Fassino inside an airport duty free shop intent on a theft like that of a perfume. He himself justifies himself dejectedly: “I certainly didn’t intend to misappropriate a small bottle of perfume that I wanted to pay for.”

Whether the check took place inside the shop or immediately after the anti-shoplifting, it matters little: the airport police, Polaria, he didn’t believe the parliamentarian’s version. And the vigilantes wanted to review camera images of surveillance. It was then the managers of the Duty Free shop who decided to file a complaint against Fassino.

His attempts to justify himself were useless. It was also useless to have asked the shop staff if they wanted to pay for the perfume. Indeed, of wanting buy two packs to be able to demonstrate his good faith. The complaint was filed anyway.

And to Piero Fassino, who now he risks being prosecuted for theft, all that remained were rather bitter outbursts. “I am not well, I’m not coping well with this storyit causes me discomfort and a lot of uneasiness”, he said to Enrico Galletti on Rtl 102.5.
