The activity of the civil protection office played a fundamental role in directly dealing with the Randello fire emergency in recent days, despite the means not always being suitable. This was communicated by the Civil Protection department which provides a report of the event.
The flames, initially extinguished, regained strength the following day due to the strong wind and some outbreaks within the Mediterranean scrub that were still active. The firefighters and civil protection intervened on site as the Canadairs were hindered by strong gusts of wind that reached up to eighty kilometers per hour.
The most important civil protection activity was recorded in the eastern part of the forest park where the fire front often attempted to overcome the demarcation line that separates the wooded area from the greenhouse crops. In this case the scenario would have been even more serious and devastating as in addition to the naturalistic and economic damage, a quantity of polluting substances would have been produced deriving from the combustion of the plastic covering these structures.
So the municipal civil protection with the help of volunteers from the maritime garrison managed to contain the line of fire, helping to limit the damage with appreciable results.
