April 24th and the snow in Abruzzo: the exclusive video

Spring seems to be a distant resort especially in the last few days. Temperatures have dropped drastically and snow has also fallen in Abruzzo.

Are we on April 24th or Christmas Eve? This is one of the questions that many Italians have asked themselves in the last few hours. Temperatures have dropped drastically for a few days and we are witnessing typical winter days. Something absolutely particular and unprecedented for the period.

Cold that is not sparing our Abruzzo. There have been winter temperatures for a few weeks now and this sudden collapse has also brought a surprise: the snow. The mountains, after a complicated January and February, have returned to being white this April. This is something you don’t see every year and the lifts could even open next weekend.

Civitella Alfedena whitewashed

Among the cities painted in white this April there is also Civitella Alfedena, center in the province of L’Aquila and a stone’s throw from the Abruzzo National Park. Residents, as can be seen in the video below, woke up to snow on April 24th.

A classic winter landscape not usual to see in late spring. But in this 2024, winter seems to have arrived with a strong delay and we do not rule out that snow could fall in the next few days too. At the moment the forecasts do not give any new snow, but the temperatures remain cold and for this reason other flakes can be hypothesized.

Is the cold on its last legs?

Does the cold have hours in Abruzzo? It’s hard to say right now. High pressure is on the way and temperatures should return to at least average again in the next few days. But A new disturbance is expected from the first days of May and winter weather cannot yet be ruled out.

But on this, as confirmed on more than one occasion by the meteorologists themselves, we will have to wait a few more days to have a much clearer picture.
