It seems they have finished the fence works, now, according to those who wanted them, no one will be able to climb over them to commit suicide, and therefore no one will commit suicide anymore! A question arises spontaneously: when will they stop “deceiving” citizens into believing that the problem of suicide has been solved? A 1960s structure that had two lanes (going and returning) so that if an emergency vehicle had to pass through it had ample space, now with those concrete blocks placed on part of the roadway and the cars queuing in both directions, there is no space even if an ant passes by, an ambulance with merciless sirens will be stuck in traffic! In my humble opinion they managed to create more inconvenience than safety. If they really wanted to reduce suicides, it is certainly not the barriers installed that will reduce them. It is not a question of having eliminated a danger due to an accidental fall, but of people who reach it to climb over it and throw themselves into the void. Those who decide to commit suicide and cannot climb over it will find other methods, as we continually read about in the newspapers!
Hire social workers in public and private nursery schools and elementary schools so that they can understand how a child lives in his/her own family, if he/she lives in a family full of hardships, or poor, in order to be able to provide him/her the attention they need. We are paying for non-potable water, and it is often lacking in some areas, you are increasing petrol, electricity and food to make the poor poorer! Make healthcare work by hiring medical, paramedical and administrative staff, laboratory technicians, experts in the healthcare sector. Throughout the electoral period everyone knows what problems are plaguing us and offers recipes for how to solve them, but after being elected everything becomes worse than before. Before! Give citizens their rights, what they deserve without the need to make them believe that it was given to them to benefit them, and you will see that the barriers you have installed on the Morandi bridge will be of little or no use!
