ROME (ITALPRESS) – The warm-up phase of the 8th edition of “Il Veneto legge” began today, the reading marathon conceived and promoted by the Department of Culture of the Veneto Region together with the regional section of the Italian Libraries Association AIB and to the Regional School Office for Veneto – MIM Veneto, in collaboration with the Italian Booksellers Association – Confcommercio Veneto, the Italian Booksellers and Stationers Union SIL – Confesercenti Veneto, the Veneto Publishers Association, the Italian Publishers Association, the Association of independent publishers and Read to Read. The Reading Marathon, scheduled for October 4, is an event that brings together educators, readers, and all the actors in the book supply chain with the aim of promoting reading and books through the involvement of schools, libraries, bookstores, publishing houses, professional readers and more.

The event was presented this morning at Palazzo Grandi Stazioni with the participation of the Cultural Heritage, Activities and Sports Directorate of the Veneto Region and the Italian Association of Veneto Libraries. Like every year, the reading marathon suggests delving into Venetian authors and books that talk about Veneto. In addition to some specific themes for this edition, they will be travel literature, a tribute to the 700th anniversary of Marco Polo’s death, literature linked to sport, in the year in which Veneto obtained recognition as a European Region of Sport. To which are added pages linked to two other anniversaries, the centenaries of the death of Eleonora Duse and Giacomo Matteotti. From today, and until September, the first events of the warm-up phase will start, with readings, debates, insights and conversations, organized throughout the regional territory. The updated list can be consulted on the event website with the invitation, for anyone who wants to organize an event within the 2024 Reading Marathon, to insert it in the two ‘warm-up’ and ‘marathon’ sections of the website. “Veneto is one of the most virtuous regions in terms of books and reading – comments the Councilor for Culture of the Veneto Region -. Every year there is great participation in the reading marathon ‘Veneto reads’, and not only that. Veneto is the region that has the most local reading agreements at a national level, of the 728 reading agreements in Italy, 93 are in Veneto. It has more than 250 reading groups, 2 million visits per year to public reading libraries. 4 million volumes lent in public reading libraries, and public reading libraries have invested around one million euros in promoting reading. We hope that these numbers will continue to grow. -photo Agenzia Fotogramma- (ITALPRESS mgg/com 24). -Apr-24 16:01 .
