Umbria, renewed magpie and hooded crow control plan

At the end of March, the Umbria Region approved the Regional Plan for il control of the magpie and the gray crow for the five-year period 2024 – 2028 in order to limit the impact of these two species on biodiversity and crops. With the publication of the regional resolution, the Plan was made immediately executive.

Control interventions through direct felling will be implemented outside the Natura 2000 network by authorized entities. A monthly statement of the withdrawals made is expected to be sent (by the 7th of each month), in order to monitor and manage any exceeding of the established annual quotas, 5,000 hooded crows (Corvus cornix) and 3,000 magpies (Pica pica).

The use of trap cages is instead indicated as the only capture method within the areas of the Natura 2000 network, with exceptions for interventions aimed at containing damage to agricultural production.

The Manager issued a Determine confirming the list of trained operators already authorized, and undertakes to continuously update this list with subsequent actions.
