Bridge over the Po, update on extraordinary maintenance interventions

CASTELVETRO/CREMONA – Update meeting, yesterday afternoon electronically, between the subjects most directly interested (Provinces of Piacenza and Cremona, Municipalities of Castelvetro, Cremona, Caorso and Monticelli, Autovia Padana) at theextraordinary maintenance intervention on the road bridge that unites the territories of Castelvetro Piacentino and Cremona and the various issues connected to it.

The award of the works for over 5 million euros is dated 9 April 2024 (through the tender followed by the Single Contracting Authority of the Province of Piacenza) to the company Paolo Beltrami Costruzioni SpA with registered office in Paderno Ponchielli (CR): delivery of the works is expected by 30 June, considering the legal deadlines.

Compared to the initial design choices (12 months of overall works, 5 months of which with alternating one-way during the day and closing at night) it should be highlighted that the successful company in the context of the technical offer presented plans to reduce the impact of the construction site on road traffic through a different execution method.

In particular, the night-time closure of the bridge would be limited – also working on weekends – to approximately two months (in the case of starting the works by 30 June, the two months of night interruption would be from mid-November to mid-December 2024 and then in February 2025) compared to the 5 planned: this hypothesis of reducing the impact on road traffic, in order to be carried out, however, requires the acquisition of further authorizations. The possibility of guaranteeing the transit of emergency vehicles, firefighters and police forces even at night is also being studied.

Activities aimed at introducing possible measures to mitigate the impact on road traffic also continue: with the Emilia-Romagna Region for the implementation of the railway offer between Piacenza and Cremona, with Autovia Padana and Anas for the exemption from the motorway toll and with the Municipalities for the concrete operational methods of the exemption, the details of which will be defined in the next weeks. A series of answers to the more technical questions posed by the local authorities involved concluded the meeting: the intention is to schedule a new update around mid-May.
