On April 13, at Legnano, the seventeenth took place “Regional championship of flag-wavers and musicians”. Several people showed up at the event categories: “single”, “double”, “small team” from 4 to 6 people, “musicians” who perform with music and choreography, “large team” from 6 to 12 athletes and “under 16” from 2 to 10 elements. The Ferno flag-wavers they placed at third place in both the “small team” and “under 16” categories.
The one in Legnano was the first post-Covid championship. The Flag-Wavers of Ferno – group born in 1980 to perform during the Palio di Ferno and which, after a 10-year break, in 2008 it was formed again as a Uisp affiliated sports association – they presented themselves with 17 items.
“Was nice to resume, because with the pandemic everything stopped and restarting is difficult. Teams struggle to participate in championships because they are still there difficulty rebuilding groups seen, this is because many have abandoned. In Brescia, there was an important group and the news of knowing it was in difficulty saddened me – he says Maurizio Giacomini, president of the Ferno Flag-wavers -. We ourselves went with 17 athletes, compared to the 30 that was our average. The hope is that those who have not been able to participate for now will return.”
«On our part then it happened nice to win – continues Giacomini -. By the way, our category under 16 started a year ago. Coming third, and ahead of other groups, was nice and exciting. Other of our exercises came fourth and there was a bit of disappointment. But never mind, nothing serious, we are used to losing because we are self-taught. We do all alone without teachers, but we beat some more experienced groups: a lot of stuff for us.”
There are other tournaments planned for the Ferno flag-wavers in the coming months. The under 18 team, for example, will be busy in Reggio Emilia on 9 June and we will be ready to document the performance!
