A Command close to people and even more so to young people, to explain to them the principles of legality and correctness and at the same time make them feel protected and protected. It is thanks to this that in recent days the municipal administration was awarded the “Anci 2023 Urban Security” award, awarded to the local police of Sassari in Rome at the national headquarters of the Association of Italian Municipalities. The Command, representing the entire city administration, won the award for the best 2023 school project: “Tuttiperuno”, a campaign to raise awareness and combat the issues of bullying and cyberbullying promoted by the local Police Command under the direction of the commander Gianni Serra, the coordination of Major Fresi and the agents Carta Federica and Fattacciu Serena. Together with assistant Filippo Petretto, always present to support every initiative, they were all invited to the ceremony in Rome during which they received the award.
The recognition, now in its eighteenth edition, rewarded the Local Police units that during the past year distinguished themselves in urban security activities with projects and initiatives of extraordinary value.
The Sassari project obtained the prestigious national recognition for the incisiveness of the message transmitted to adolescents and for the articulation of the path developed over the entire school year. Numerous awareness days were organized and carried out in secondary school classes, focusing on constant discussions and current debates on the topic of bullying and cyberbullying in which pupils, teachers and agents participated. A working group made up of students has also been set up in schools to monitor this phenomenon within the institutions, with the aim of promoting effective prevention and contrast tools, and of picking up the first warning signs.
But this project also included numerous moments of reflection and information, carried out in the squares and places where teenagers gather and, finally, the active participation of schools in the awareness campaign with the implementation by each individual school adhering to the project of a short film on the topic which was presented in competition among all the institutes in the final conference of the legality campaign, in which the phenomenon was further analyzed in front of technicians, teachers, managers, institutional representatives and students, and it was possible to listen to the dramatic testimonies of the president of the Carolina Foundation, Paolo Picchio, and of a young woman from Sassari who has been bullied for years. Today, available to girls and boys who need it, there is a dedicated number (3294203949 and 079274100) that they can contact in complete safety, to feel protected and no longer alone in managing dangerous or abusive situations.
During the ceremony in Rome, the 2023 Report on the activities of the local police was also presented, which highlighted how they are increasingly taking on the role of security actors in municipal territories; the Anci 2023 report highlights their role in road safety activities, in the prevention and repression of crimes, in carrying out commercial, environmental and construction police tasks, in judicial police activities and in urban security. The local police, it has been said, is the only proximity police present in cities, whose task is to stimulate the creation of a network of relationships with citizens, productive categories, associations, schools and other institutions . «Today the most modern local police, like ours – explains commander Gianni Serra -, have specialist units active in the fight against predatory crimes (robberies, thefts, etc.) and in the repression of drug dealing, in every action aimed at improving the liveability of a territory, social cohesion, civil coexistence. The added value is given by the commitment towards young people to ingrain in them the culture of legality, and our local police with the countless initiatives that daily represents a model to imitate”.
«As Mayor Nanni Campus often underlines to newly hired and non-hired officers – continues the commander -, the work of a local police officer is a service that is guaranteed and offered to all citizens. Informing, preventing and raising awareness on important issues is one of the tasks of each of us, which we still continue to do in all schools of all levels, acting as spokespersons not only with regard to bullying and/or cyberbullying but also with respect to equally important issues such as traffic education, prevention of alcohol and drug use, accidents caused by the abuse of these substances, gender violence, “revenge porn” and toxic interpersonal relationships”.
The mayor of Ercolano, delegate for Urban Security and vice-president of Anci, Ciro Buonajuto, spoke at the ceremony in Rome. «The safety of our citizens – explained Buonajuto – is an absolute priority for our communities. I am proud of the tireless work carried out by local police officers in every part of the country, who guarantee safety for citizens day after day. The presentation of the national report on the activity of the local police and the awarding of the Urban Security Award – added the Anci vice-president – is an important opportunity to discuss “best practices” and to recognize and celebrate the extraordinary commitment of our operators” .
