Turin, off to the Book Fair: Liguria guest with a limited delegation

It opened at the Lingotto in Turin on Book Fair 2024. Liguria is guest of honor but at the inaugural ceremony, late in the morning in the Lingotto Auditorium, an art deco industrial building from 1934 redesigned at the end of the twentieth century by Renzo Piano, institutional representation has been forcibly rarefiedwith a couple of fleeting references from the official speakers of Turin.

The ceremony started 40 minutes late, in the presence of the ministers Gennaro Sangiuliano (Culture) and Giuseppe Valditara (Education), the governor of Piedmont Alberto Cirio and the mayor of Turin Stefano Lorusso, as well as the new director Annalena Benini.

The president of the Salone Silvio Viale, in his opening speech, dedicated a passage to greeting Liguria as the guest of honour, “It’s a difficult time but we still have the representation of the managers here.” No reaction from the audience. The president of the Readers’ Club Giulio Pino also greeted the guest region Liguria, “hoping that the ongoing vicissitudes will be resolved soon”.

The Ligurian delegation was in fact led by the coordinator of cultural policies Jessica Nicolini and by the manager Marco Pogliani, in the absence of the current head of the council, the acting vice-president Alessandro Piana, initially given as present with an announcement made late yesterday afternoon. In the evening the first official event in Liguria, with protagonist Gino Paoli.
