There are hundreds of quarrymen who this morning, as a sign of protest, are demonstrating in front of the Franchi Umberto marble company in Carrara (Massa Carrara). The demonstration was called by Feneal Uil, Filca Cisl and Fillea Cgil after the marble industrialist Alberto Franchi on Report in an off-air interview in which, according to the entrepreneur, the workers who were victims of accidents in the quarries would get hurt because they were ‘imbeciles’ ‘. For today, the strike of the marble sector category of the Apuo-Versiliese district has also been called.
Words that have raised endless controversy in the city, creating discontent among workers and general public indignation, also expressed through many comments on social media pages. The mayor of Carrara Serena Arrighi, as well as the unions and local political forces, distanced themselves from Franchi’s words. Yesterday Alberto Franchi apologized for what he said off-air, calling them ‘inappropriate’.
This morning the demonstration began in front of the gates of Franchi Umberto, in the Nazzano area, around 9 am, with numerous flags and banners and in the presence of the trade unions who called the demonstration. In addition to the many quarrymen present, there are also numerous citizens and some families of the quarrymen themselves, who arrived at the event in solidarity with the entire category. a procession is then planned that will arrive at the local Confindustria headquarters on viale XX Settembre.
