PROVINCE – From Interior Ministry 1.5 million of euros to common from the “Land of fires“. The objective, the ministry informs on its website, is to strengthen prevention and combat activities against the phenomenon ofabandonment of waste and toxic firesalso in view of the increase in temperatures and the approach of the summer season.
The funds intended for Caserta
The resources, from the Single Justice Fund, can be used by local authorities for the fixed-term hiring of local police officers or intended to pay overtime work. In particular, 930 thousand euros are reserved for the metropolitan area of Naples and 570 thousand euros for the province of Caserta, in relation to the number of municipalities in the ‘Land of Fires’. The financing is intended for entities that as of 31 December 2023 had a shortage of local police personnel equal to or greater than 25% of their workforce. The maximum amount of the contribution will be 30 thousand euros for municipalities with a population exceeding 15 thousand inhabitants and 20 thousand euros for those below this threshold.
The distribution of resources
The resources will be distributed, up to the total amount, giving priority to the projects presented by local administrations in the territories of which a greater number of waste fires have been recorded in the four-year period 2020-2023, based on data from the National Fire Brigade of fire. In the event that the number of fires that occurred in the period considered in several eligible municipalities coincides, preference will be given to municipalities with more inhabitants. To access the contributions, the local administrations involved must submit a request to the territorially competent prefecture by May 15th. The application must be accompanied by a project sheet on the initiatives they intend to undertake in the period between 15 June and 15 October 2024, with the related expenditure items.
