PAVIA – On Thursday 25 April the city of Pavia will join the celebrations of the 79th Anniversary of the Liberation, an opportunity to remember the end of the Second World War and honor the fallen who fought for freedom and democracy. The Municipality of Pavia, in collaboration with the Citizen Committee and the Combat and Weapons Associations, has organized a rich program of events to worthily commemorate this important anniversary.

The day will begin at 9.45am with the laying of a wreath atShrine dedicated to the fallen of the Second World War” at the Major Cemetery. A moment of reflection and prayer will follow with the Bishop of Pavia, Monsignor Corrado Sanguinetiin memory of those killed in war.

At 10.30 am, the procession will gather in Piazzale Ghinaglia to lay a wreath at the memorial stone dedicated to Ferruccio Ghinaglia. The procession will then continue towards Piazza del Carmineaccompanied by Band Corps “S. Cecilia” by Belgioioso.

At 11.00 am, the Holy Mass in the Church of Carminecelebrated by Don Daniele Baldthe. At 11.45 am, the procession will regroup and head towards Italy Square.

At 12.00 in Piazza Italiathe official ceremony will take place: flag raising, laying of wreaths, greeting from the Mayor, Mario Fabrizio Fracassi, and official speech held by Professor Anna Ferrando, professor in transnational history of culture in contemporary Italy at the University of Pavia.

In the afternoon, in each of the city’s Social Promotion Associations, commemorations will be held for the figures to whom the Centers themselves are named. The day will end at 5.30 pm with the flag being lowered.
