CHARLOTTE, NC (theACC.com) – Syracuse junior attackman Owen Hiltz earned Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week honors, and Notre Dame graduate goalie Liam Entenmann was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
Hiltz racked up a season-best eight points on Saturday, scoring a hat trick and tallying five assists as Syracuse rallied to knock off No. 4 Virginia, 18-17, to finish 3-1 in ACC play. A native of Peterborough, Ontario, Hiltz added three points (2g, 1a) in Syracuse’s 6-0 run across the first and second quarters, while adding another three points (1g, 2a) in the second half in a wild finish. Hiltz extended his point streak to 42 straight games, covering every game of his career.
Entenmann was masterful in goal, making 12 saves while allowing just six goals, in the Fighting Irish’s 14-6 win over the Tar Heels to help Notre Dame remain unbeaten at 3-0 in ACC play. The six goals are tied for the fewest North Carolina has scored in a game this season. A native of Point Lookout, New York, Entenmann has made double-digit saves in six of the last seven games, all Irish victories.
ACC teams hold four of the top six positions in the latest USILA poll, with No. 1 Notre Dame, No. 2 Duke, No. 3 Syracuse and No. 6 Virginia.
The regular-season concludes with a pair of games scheduled for Saturday. Duke visits rival North Carolina at noon on ACC Network, while Notre Dame travels to Virginia at 2 pm on ESPNU. The 2024 ACC Championship, featuring the top four teams in the final league standings, will be played May 3 and 5 at American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.
