The Hera group was awarded by the Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and the Environment (Arera) among the operators of excellence in the quality of the Italian integrated water service, with reference to the two-year period 2020-21: considering all the macro-indicators provided by the Authority , the multiutility was awarded the first and third position in the general ranking of Italian operators, demonstrating the high standards adopted by the group in this area. In fact, for both years, among the top 6 positions of excellence, three relate to territories served by Hera: first place in the territorial area of Modena, third place for Ferrara and sixth for Bologna. Among the macro-indicators in which the multi-utility service excels most include the reduction of water losses, the quality of drinking water and the adequacy of the sewerage system.

Second operator at national level, the Hera group invested almost 200 million euros in aqueduct, sewerage and purification systems in 2023 alone and the 2023-2027 Industrial Plan envisages overall investments in the integrated water service of approximately 1.2 billion euros on a total of 4.4 billion overall allocated, equal to approximately 80 euros per year per inhabitant, well above the Italian average of industrial managers (63 euros/year per inhabitant). A commitment aimed at further strengthening the resilience of infrastructures, promoting the digitalisation of networks and processes, thus guaranteeing the highest quality and continuity of service and an increasingly efficient and circular use of the resource. Arera measures six indicators and for each has identified annual maintenance and improvement objectives: losses in the aqueduct networks, service interruptions, the quality of drinking water, the efficiency of the sewerage service, the disposal of sewage sludge , the quality of treated wastewater.
