‘The Pino Smargiassi municipal gym will reopen in September’
After months of work and a spending commitment of over 400 thousand euros, the structure will be usable again starting from the next sports season

CIVITA CASTELLANA – ‘The work on the Pino Smargiassi gym is nearing completion, we hope to reopen the structure in September’. Mayor Luca Giampieri communicated this during the last city council meeting at the request of the Communist Refoundation party with councilors Yuri Cavalieri and Maurizio Romani who had asked for clarification on the progress of the work started in November.
‘The interventions on the roofing and internal walls – it was reported to the council – have been completed, we are currently proceeding with the finishing works so as to be able to hand over the structure to the associations in the shortest possible time’.
The works have therefore entered what should be the final phase, and sporting activities could restart from next season with a completely modernized structure suitable for hosting Serie A, thanks to the adaptation of the roof height standards and the expansion of the number of seats.
The associations who, months ago, moved the meeting venue to neighboring countries are rejoicing.
‘Finally for the next sports season – reported Francesco Santini, president of Junior Volleyball – we can go back to playing at home thanks to a new and welcoming structure. The gym, as is known, has been closed for several months and the meetings have been moved to Nepi. In 2018 – Santini still remembers going back in memory – our team won the Serie A Italian Cup, but we were forced to relegate to Serie B (where they still play with the Ecosantagata shirt) due to the inadequacy of the structure which did not it reflected the technical parameters imposed by the federation for that category.’
‘Thanks to this renovation – concludes Santini – the municipal gym will have a new roof with a barrel vault in laminated wood with the addition of seats. It will be a great challenge, returning to play at home will finally give all the citizens the opportunity to follow their team and cheer for us.’
