Livorno, 24 April 2024 – “For the fifth consecutive year there is no increase in the Tari rate. In the first part of the mandate we had reduced taxes and in the second part we managed to keep them unchanged”. There is a certain satisfaction in the words that the budget councilor Viola Ferroni pronouncement in the second budget commission. Last words, before the end of the legislature, where the administration shows the work done in recent years.

“While in other municipalities there is an increase in tariffs of up to 10 percent due to a crazy regulatory system – says Ferroni – we we managed not to impose increases“. The node is called Arera, a regulatory body, which opened a series of increases linked to inflation for managers and the Municipality could make increases of up to 9.5%. “We have sterilized the increase – said the councilor in the commission – thanks to the recovery of the Tari tax evasion. What we recovered from the TARI evasion allowed us not to increase the tariff”. This is an important figure: around 3 million euros recovered by carrying out assessment activities, requesting payments thanks to the cross-referencing of databases. But in the commission yesterday another important topic was also addressed: the provisional provision for the heirs of the flood victims. The commission, chaired by the grillina Stella Sorgente, thus passed to vice president Barale due to commitments of the movement’s parent company. “In this change – said the Ferroni – we find the application of the surplus set aside for 440 thousand euros necessary to complete the sum that the Municipality, usually obliged, is required to pay for the well-known sentence (compensation to the families of the 2017 flood victims, ed.). 440 thousand euros is in fact the provisional amount, which integrates what the insurance company will pay.” The Municipality will take recourse action against the only defendant, the former mayor Filippo Nogarin accused in the first degree of aggravated multiple murder. “Recourse action – specifies the councilor – because we are jointly and severally obliged. 2 million is the money that must be paid now as provisional, of which 440 thousand comes from the 5 million set aside for the 2023 statement”. It is curious that it was Grillina Grassi herself who asked: “Why is there such a low ceiling? This is a bit strange. I would like to understand the reason for this insurance”. Councilor Ferroni: “In 2016 when the policy was created, I wasn’t there!”.
