Viterbo – “At San Pellegrino in festa it will be possible to frame Viterbo and participate in a contest on Instagram, including installations with suspended sheets in the streets”. Rosanna Stoppani she is the owner of the B&b dei Papi and this year, as in 2023, she will be part of San Pellegrino in festa.

The event will return with its second edition on the 21st-22nd and 23rd and will see his collaboration. In particular, Rosanna Stoppani will take care of the central theme of the event.

“The streets will be embellished with empty frames, both on the ground and suspended, which frame the various monuments and views of the city – he explains -. People will thus be able to interact and photograph themselves, framing the beauty of the historic center in the background. A contest will also be activated on Instagram and people will be able to post various photos using the hashtag . In this way the views of our city will be photographed and enhanced.”

But among the new features there is also the collaboration with a contemporary artist. “We will involve a young artist called Giulia Apice and she works with sheets – adds Rosanna Stoppani -. So, in addition to the frames, we will also find sheets suspended in the streets.”

In June San Pellegrino returns to celebrate. A second edition that will color and revive the historic center. How did your involvement in the event come about?
“It all started last year with the first edition of San Pellegrino in festa. For more than 20 years I have been taking part in the city’s traditional and main horticultural event and, when Viterbo in Bloom came out last year, I was contacted by Irene Temperini and Francesco Cerra for this new initiative. I enthusiastically joined because I believe in the beauty of our city and in the importance of enhancing and promoting it externally too. This year I will give my contribution again. I will contribute by setting up, like last year, the small square in front of the B&B dei Papi, of which I am the owner. I will do it differently than San Pellegrino in fiore.”

Will you therefore also participate in San Pellegrino in fiore?
“Yes, I have always participated, taking care of the set-up at my own expense in exchange for the occupation of public land. In previous editions I have always taken care of the small square in front of my accommodation facility. I organized the installations, usually also contacting contemporary artists. This year I will do the same, combining the horticultural part with the artistic aspect. Remaining connected to the general theme of the Middle Ages, I am setting up a hortus conclusus in a contemporary key. There will be a central well inside which an audiovisual work by artists Federico Paris and Gloria Lauro will be positioned. The vegetable garden will consist of four flowerbeds created in a contemporary key by Roberto Poleggi. And there will be floral decor by Maria Olimpia Orsalini.”

Returning to San Pellegrino in celebration, was it your idea for the central theme that will animate the historic center for this new edition?
“Exactly. This year I suggested how to do the setup, which will go from Piazza San Lorenzo to Piazza San Pellegrino. It occurred to me to work with frames, which will then be the central theme of this edition. The streets will be embellished with empty frames, both on the ground and suspended, which frame the various monuments and views of the city. People will thus be able to interact and photograph themselves, framing the beauty of the historic center in the background. A contest will also be activated on Instagram and people will be able to post various photos using the hashtag . In this way the views of our city will be photographed and enhanced. An idea born to promote our centre, make it known and grow. We want to enhance the historical-artistic and cultural beauty of the capital of Tuscia. In the next few days we will take a tour to understand where to place the frames. However, I can anticipate that I have identified a point with a very beautiful view, where, going down Via Pietra del Pesce, the bell tower of the Duomo can already be seen.

We will also try to involve traders. In fact, each of them will be able to join spontaneously, perhaps connecting the showcase to the theme of the frames. There is freedom to do so and perhaps in this way a sort of continuity can be created between all the streets of the centre.”

The theme of the frames will therefore be the main one. But will there also be other setups?
“Certainly. I can’t reveal all the details, but I can say that I thought about involving a young contemporary artist from Frosinone. Her name is Giulia Apice and she works with sheets. We are thinking of something that can connect to this distinctive feature of hers. So, in addition to the frames, we will also find hanging sheets. But I won’t say anything else…”

What will be the layout of the square of your accommodation facility for San Pellegrino in festa?
“It’s still being finalized. But I will certainly connect to the central theme of the event. I will therefore work with the frames and with a play of reflections between my facade and the greenery. And then there will be a sheet in collaboration with Giulia Apice. Every year I have always collaborated and involved contemporary artists. And I believe that Giulia can make the views of Viterbo even more evocative.”

In your opinion, how important is it to organize events like San Pellegrino in festa to enhance the city?
“Events of this type are very important for the city. They are a tool to make it even more beautiful, to enhance it and take care of it. Just think of how much more pleasant everything would be if each of us kept our home balcony clean and tidy. Everyone in their own small way can do something for the city. And then there are these events that allow you to involve more people, to make them all feel part of a project, for the good of the city and the community. We always say that Viterbo must become a living room and this is the right opportunity to do so, taking care of the center and making it alive. Also a way to attract citizens and tourists. An initiative that can do good for those who live in the historic center every day, whether as a private individual or as a business. It will be a beautiful edition, with related displays and events. We will liven up Viterbo.”
