10 – Alberto Spagnoli
The invaluable brace from Ancona’s centre-forward, Alberto Spagnoli, who reached fifteen goals in the season, allowed Mr. Boscaglia’s team to achieve a priceless two-nil success on the Pescara pitch and to put a serious claim on direct salvation . With these three points, in fact, Ancona, despite remaining fifth from last, rises to forty-one, being able to boast ten points ahead of Fermana, penultimate, therefore, repeating the success next Sunday in the home match against a Lucchese team that does not have to ask for more nothing to the championship, Ancona would not play the playout having more than eight points ahead of Fermana and would be directly safe. Eagerly waiting!
9 – Carrarese
Carrarese won the Lucca derby one-nil thanks to the penalty converted by Finotto a quarter of an hour from the end. The success certifies the well-deserved third place finish of the Apuans a day early, resulting in qualification for the first national round, where they will be one of the top seeds. Much of the credit goes to the arrival on the bench, after the second return match, of coach Antonio Calabro who transformed the team, making it complete a great journey of sixteen games, full of ten victories, five draws and only one defeat.
8 – Spal and Sestri Levante
Spal, with two goals in the last quarter of an hour of the match, scored by Zilli and Valentini, beat Pineto at the “Mazza”, reaches eleventh place at forty-six, but, what matters most, reaches safety a day early. There are some regrets, in particular for the dismissal of Mr. Di Carlo who, once recalled to the bench, maintained a playoff pace, probably achievable if he had always remained at the helm of the Este team, given the disastrous performance of Spal in the interregnum of Mister Colucci.
Sestri Levante beats Vis Pesaro three to two at home and celebrates a well-deserved salvation in its first ever season as a professional team, having, moreover, had to play all its home matches on a neutral pitch, first in Carrara and then in the more distant Vercelli. Match full of reversals in front, with the Ligurians immediately ahead with the usual Forte, on his thirteenth goal, reached and overcome in the first half by Vis. In the second half, Clemenza goes wild, scoring a brace which reverses the result, with Vis left with ten men at two-two due to an expulsion. Sestri Levante which reaches salvation at forty-four, together with Lucchese and Pineto, even if in fourteenth place due to the worst separate ranking.
7 – Juventus Next Gen. and Rimini
Juve Next Gen. Never ceases to amaze! He wins two to one in Alessandria with Fermana and climbs to sixth place overall in the rankings, at fifty-four, just two points away from fifth. Bianconeri ahead with Guerra, joined by the Marche players before the break. When the expulsion of Guerra himself, fifteen minutes into the second half, seemed to have an impact on Juve, instead the feat of Nonge Bonde arrived ten minutes from the end to give the three points to Mr. Brambilla’s team.
Rimini beat Entella one-nil at the “Neri” and took their passport to play the playoffs with their tenth place at fifty in the company of Arezzo, determined, at the moment, by the worst direct clashes with the amaranth. Lamesta’s poisonous left foot midway through the second half decided the match.
Purgatory
6 – Arezzo, Gubbio, Torres and Cesena
Arezzo returns undefeated from the “Curi”, where they face one by one in the derby with Perugia. Everything in the second half, with Lazzarini’s initial lead from Arezzo, the best on the pitch among the Amaranths and the Griffins equalizing midway through the second half. With the point gained, Arezzo, ninth for the best head-to-head matches with roommate Rimini, has the mathematical certainty of playing in the playoffs.
Good draw for two to two for Gubbio on the Recanatese pitch, although not without some regrets for the Umbrians, who took the lead twice with Di Massimo, the first in the first half on a penalty and the second less than a quarter of an hour away now from the end and both times reached almost immediately by the home team, the second on a penalty. With the draw, Gubbio remains in fifth place, now at fifty-six, threatened by two points from Juve NG
The “Vanni Sanna” match was a beautiful match between Cesena, dominator of the championship and Torres, a very worthy bridesmaid who, repeating the one-to-one match in the first leg, in addition to certifying her well-deserved second place, confirmed herself as the only team in the Group not to have lost against Cesena. The latter, however, by winning against Perugia at home in the last match of the tournament, would equal the absolute record for points in Serie C, ninety-six, established by Catanzaro last season. Torres took the lead in the first half thanks to captain Scotto, who converted a penalty and Adamo equalised, in the second half, for Cesena, who also hit the woodwork twice. Cesena first with ninety-three points, Torres mathematically second with seventy-four. Chapeau!
5 – Perugia, Pontedera, Olbia, Recanati
Another half a misstep for Perugia, who didn’t go beyond a one-to-one score in Etruria’s home derby against Arezzo. And thank goodness that halfway through the second half Vazquez was good at rebalancing the result almost immediately with a soft touch, assisted by Matos, after Arezzo had recently taken the lead. The one-to-one at home almost completely undermines the hopes of being the best fourth, the Grifo would only have to win at the home of the championship dominator Cesena, chasing the points record, with any victory that might not even be enough. Perugia mathematically fourth at sixty-three.
Pontedera’s home draw penalized with last place Olbia. The two-two is of no use to anyone, with Olbia, last with only twenty-six points, mathematically relegated and Pontedera, overtaken by Juve NG and slipped to eighth position due to the worst direct clashes against Pescara, with whom it shares share fifty. Olbia took the initial lead with Fabbri, with Pontedera first equalizing with Del Pupo and then, at the end of the first half, taking the lead with Ambrosini. At the beginning of the second half the definitive, useless two-by-two of the Sardinians, signed by Catania.
Recanatese does not go beyond the two-two at home in the fundamental home match against Gubbio, which must be won in order to be able to hope, on the eve, for direct salvation. 4 – Entella
Entella loses 1-0 in Rimini and will have to tremble until the end to be sure of direct salvation. The Ligurians capitulate halfway through the second half, then failing to rebalance the result, Entella sixth from last with forty-two points, which necessarily needs a point in the home match against Recanatese to avoid, in the case of simultaneous successes of Ancona and Fermana, playing the playoffs.
3 – Pineto
Pineto’s lackluster period continues, also losing to Ferrara, two to zero in the final, even if, in the end, they can still celebrate mathematical salvation with a round to spare. Abruzzesi in the match until ten minutes from the end, when they suffered the decisive one-two shoulder pad. Staying in Serie C is a very important goal for the Abruzzo freshman, in his first year of professionalism and currently thirteenth for the best ranking compared to Sestri Levante and the worst ranking for Lucchese.
2 – Fermana and Vis Pesaro
Fermana complicates their lives enormously by losing the match against Juve NG two to one in Alessandria. Extremely heavy defeat, which leaves Fermana in the penultimate place, now mathematical, at thirty-one, with very little hope of competing in the playout in light of the ten points detachment from Ancona and the eleven from Enella, fifth last and sixth last respectively, at one matchday from the end, nine are enough, in fact, to not play the playout and be directly relegated to D. An even more serious defeat because it arrived, ten minutes from the end, with Fermana in numerical superiority, after Sorrentino, at the end of the first half, had equalized the first Juventus lead.
Harakiri of Vis Pesaro in Vercelli against Sestri Levante. After having overturned Liguria’s initial lead in the first half thanks to goals from Neri and Nicastro, the Marches were guilty of a draw on a restart at the start of the second half. When Pescara, with the advent of Emmanuel Cascione on the bench, seemed to have found the key to the intricate skein of this championship, here came the unexpected relapse, with the home defeat against Ancona. A net two to zero, which certifies the sixth home defeat of the Abruzzo team, really too many, even if only the first under Cascione’s management. With a goal in each half, Ancona takes away the entire stake, pushing Pescara back to seventh place at fifty-two, but only by virtue of better head-to-head matches compared to Pontedera. Evidently the squad built by the club has structural defects that are difficult to remedy and the responsibilities of the highly contested president Daniele Sebastiani appear increasingly evident. Pescara could even risk playing the first round of the playoffs away from home if they were to lose a further position in the standings on the final day.
