Bad weather, more snow in Emilia Romagna: over 30 cm in the Modena Apennines. Hail expected: that’s where

Bologna, 23 April 2024 – Continued bad weather in Emilia Romagna. It’s still snowing in the Modena area, in particular throughout the upper Apennines above a thousand metres altitude, with accumulations over 30 centimetres in the area of ​​Passo delle Radici, Frassinoro, Montefiorino, in the area of ​​Sestola, Fanano, as well as in the area of ​​Montese and Zocca. Yesterday a good part ofEmilia woke up whitewashed with flakes even at low altitude, in the Parma area, in Porretta Terme (Bologna), in the Modena area and in the Reggio Emilia area.

At the moment the provincial road network in the Modena areawhere it continues to snow, it’s all passable and provincial staff are working to remove branches that have fallen onto the roads. In the evening the provincial vehicles will be at work for the road salting at greater risk of night frosts, as well as continuing with the cleaning of the road network, which is currently entirely passable.

According to reports from Emilia Romagna Weather on the Facebook page, new snowfalls are also taking place between Parma and Bolognese. But the awakening was cold throughout Emilia Romagna: the skies and some weak showers on the plain between Modena and Piacenza.

“The white flakes fell at altitudes of 800/900 meters – informs the regional Meteo Center -, but the phenomenon will end by the afternoon, with the rise in temperatures above the freezing point: in the evening the bad weather will move to the reliefs eastern parts of the region, while rain is forecast for tomorrow”.

Temperatures

They registered almost everywhere very low temperatures, the coldest cities in the early morning, Piacenza, Parma and Reggio Emilia. Given the cold in many cities yesterday it was extended turning on the radiators. Today it was also added Ravenna: here you can turn on the heating until April 30th.

Rivers

Emilia Romagna Meteo reported a modest floods of some rivers in Emilia after yesterday’s rain. Early in the morning “the Secchia exceeded the yellow alert threshold at Ponte Alto but then fell. Yellow threshold again for the Secchia at Ponte Bacchello, threshold exceeded by approximately 40 cm, level slightly increasing. The Navile at Bentivoglio also exceeded the yellow threshold but is decreasing”.

Possible hailstorms

According to meteorologist Ampro, Roberto Nanni is expected in the afternoon hail in Romagna. “At the level of a storm outbreak – she explains – hail showers could occur (small hail, graupel or snow pellets but with accumulations) associated with the occurrence of possible vortex phenomena (spout, waterspout) probably just along the coastline. The latter are more difficult to identify in space-time, but convergences of synoptic winds and convective indices (including LLS and DLS) would be in favor.”
