Metabolic hepatic steatosis represents an emerging cause of cirrhosis, hepatic decompensation, liver disease

Metabolic hepatic steatosis represents an emerging cause of cirrhosis, hepatic decompensation, hepatocellular carcinoma, liver transplantation. It is often associated with obesity, diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, as well as an increased risk of cardiovascular complications.
Thanks to the donation of the AFMF (the Forlì Association for Liver Diseases Odv), the Internal Medicine operational unit of the Forlì Hospital, directed by prof. Paolo Muratori, is enriched with new equipment: a latest generation ultrasound machine worth thirty thousand euros, dedicated to the diagnosis of the most serious patients suffering from liver diseases.
Present at the donation ceremony were Dr. Giorgio Martelli, director of the Forlì Hospital, Prof. Marcello Galvani, director of the Emergency, Internal Medicine and Cardiology Department of the ASL Romagna area of Forlì and Cesena. For the AFMF, in addition to the president, Dr. Salvatore Ricca Rosellini, the vice president, Patrizia Cenci, and the councilor, Nereo Baruzzi, were present.
“First of all – says the prof. Paolo Muratori, director of Internal Medicine of Forlì and Santa Sofia – I would like to thank the Forlì liver disease association (AFMF) in the person of its representative, colleague and friend, Dr. Salvatore Ricca Rosellini, a leading figure in Forlì healthcare and specifically in Forlì hepatology . Ultrasound represents the main technique through which to evaluate the liver, to make a diagnosis of chronic liver disease, to follow its evolution thanks to its reproducibility in the absence of invasiveness. As Internal Medicine we are particularly proud of the donation of the ultrasound that the AFMF decided to dedicate to us, first of all because we consider it a certificate of esteem and trust in our work, then because it allows us to improve and implement ultrasound activity on patients liver diseases that belong to our Hepatology clinic in Forlì. “

“The precious tool – adds Dr Ricca Rosellini – was purchased by the AFMF, thanks to the generosity of its members and supporters and, above all, thanks to the legacy of Francesco Negrini, who was a founding member of the association way back in 1996. The association, in fact, was born within the Internal Medicine at the time, in the old “GB Morgagni” hospital in Piazzale Solieri. This gift aims to remember that pioneering era, as the thirtieth anniversary of the AFMF approaches. The new ultrasound system was dedicated by the association to the memory of the late Negrini, with a commemorative plaque displayed in the clinic where the instrument will be used by the doctors of the Internal Medicine Department.”

The activities of the Forlì Association for Liver Diseases Odv
«The AFMF – states Ricca Rosellini – also last year continued its projects to support the fight against viral hepatitis in the Sahrawi refugee camps, in the Algerian desert of Tindouf, sending further economic aid».
In 2023 the Association donated a wireless handheld ultrasound machine complete with tablet to the Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy Operational Unit of Forlì and allocated to the Internal Medicine Operational Unit of the Forlì Hospital “the software necessary to evaluate elasticity of the structure of the liver, avoiding liver biopsy”
«Our AFMF – concludes the president Ricca Rosellini – protagonist of numerous prevention initiatives, already promoting hepatological home care and psychological assistance for these patients in the 2000s, needs everyone’s help and generosity to continue in the his solidarity commitment.”
