MACERATA – He was traveling on the motorway with half a million smoking products transported illegally from San Marino to the Marche: the Guardia di Finanza reported him for smuggling foreign manufactured tobacco.
The operation took place near the Civitanova motorway toll booth: the financial officers noticed a car clearly loaded with goods and stopped it. During the inspection, over half a million products accessory to smoking tobacco were found (including rolled tobacco-free papers, filters and plain papers), subject to consumption tax.
An in-depth investigation was enough to ascertain the illegal detention and transport of the articles, as the person who transported them did not have the tax documentation justifying the purchase and certifying the prior payment of the relevant consumption tax, nor did he possess any authorization license for the purchase of goods tax-free.
The smoking accessories (approximately 27 kilos of material) were illicitly imported from the State of San Marino and were intended for numerous tobacco shops on the coast and in the Marche hinterland, which are currently being identified.
All illegally detained smoking items, in addition to the car used for transport, were seized and the person transporting them was reported to the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Macerata, for the crime of smuggling of manufactured tobacco foreign.
