The fourth to last match of the women’s volleyball series B2 championship was played on Sunday 21 April, the Sensation Profumerie hosted the Catania volleyball. A victory was expected at the Pala Marcellino and the expectations were not disappointed: an hour and twenty minutes of actual play for a three-nil of no small competitive spectacle. Initially motivated, the visiting team crashed several times against a Sensation with good tactical skills and good at making the most of the inexperience of the very young Catania team; a first set fought until 13 to 15 when with an important break Gitti and her teammates made an acceleration that found the Sicilians unprepared, almost helpless and “forced” to concede the first set. In the second half of the game, on the wings of enthusiasm, Gioiosa’s team reached a peremptory 20 to 16, managing the crucial moments with Aliata (a real thorn in the side for the Sicilians) and the two four-seaters who constantly alternated, to bite the set. Similar but less exciting trend in the third set which developed point by point until 6 all with the Sensation never in danger, the Sicilians try to react and the path seemed favorable for the Catania girls and instead it ends as it started, with 5 rounds of service for Scaccino, the solid direction of Gitti M, the blocks of Aliata and the attacks of Esposito, Therqaj and Gitti C, all surrounded by the good reception of D’Elia and the serves of Amante. Having reiterated the good performance of Volley Catania which shows a lot of commitment, but pays in the decisive moments for the greater experience of the implacable Aliata (her walls are devastating) and her teammates, in everyone’s opinion it remains an acceptable performance which brings three points and gives us hope for the future of this championship.
