Hundreds of signatures against the biciplan

The petition of the traders of Porto Recanati against the new and contested biciplan (i.e. the cycle mobility plan), which the Michelini Administration would like to implement, continues. And from a first unofficial estimate, the signatures collected so far in the various shops in the city should amount to several hundred, counting both Porto Recanati customers and non-residents. Meanwhile, the creators of the protest initiative, namely the three minority groups Porto Recanati 21-26, Centro-Destra Unito and Civici per Porto Recanati, yesterday gave news on how they will proceed.

“On Saturday afternoon, we met to take stock of the collection of signatures “No to this biciplan” – writes the opposition in a joint note -. There is unanimous satisfaction with the progress of the initiative which will continue in the next few days , at least until early May, when a stand will also be set up where citizens who have not yet signed will be able to do so. In the meantime, there remains the possibility of signing in many businesses that have signed up, or by contacting us municipal councillors”. While on the merchants’ front, the intention is to do a first official count of signatures towards the end of the month. “Between Saturday and Sunday, we will pick up all the petition forms in the various shops, to understand how many have signed – explains Ubaldo Traini, spokesperson for the category -. Then we will evaluate what to do, but I think we will continue to collect signatures until the beginning or mid-May. We hope that the Administration changes its mind, because there are not only residents who are against it, but also people from neighboring towns.”

However, Rosalba Ubaldi, group leader of the United Centre-Right, also speaks out on the issue again, replying to Mayor Andrea Michelini, after he assured that he did not want to close Corso Matteotti to traffic. “The mayor doesn’t deny anything about the biciplan – states Ubaldi -, only that there will “probably” not be an area closed to traffic on the course. But he absolutely does not deny the one-way system and the cycle path along the main street of the town. And this will cause the elimination of 50% of parking spaces and the impossibility of placing dehors. Councilor Lorenzo Riccetti reigns supreme. However, the biciplan tables have not yet been changed as of March 8th. I repeat: creating a cycle path on the course is absolutely harmful for any commercial activity and beyond.”
