Rho: Mayors’ pact for better air to breathe

The Municipality of Rho signed, yesterday morning, 22 April, at the Piccolo Teatro Strehler in Milan, the Covenant of Mayors for a breathing Po Valley.

Covenant of mayors for better air to breathe

The objective is to start a multidisciplinary reflection on the topic of air pollution and expand the network of cities committed to the environment with concrete measures. The signing took place as part of the “Cities change air” event created on the occasion of Earth Day to involve administrations of the Po Valley.

In the document the mayors ask “the government to make investments available dedicated to reducing the negative impact on the environment of the transport of people and goods and of agricultural and industrial activities”; “concrete investments in the financing and sustainability of local public transport, especially in the transition to electric vehicles”; “extraordinary funds for plans to replace obsolete boilers and, more generally, for the energy efficiency of buildings and urban reforestation”.

They ask the European Union for attention “because the Po Valley area is one of the most critical cases, due to its territorial characteristics and high population and production density”.
