This year too, Poste Italiane is participating in World Earth Day scheduled for today, Monday 22 April, with a series of concrete interventions implemented in Abruzzo in favor of environmental sustainability and eco-compatible development.

Among these, the renewal of the company fleet with electric vehicles which currently numbers 563 vehicles in Abruzzi, of which 170 are electric and another 393 with low environmental impact, including methane-powered cars and vans and low-emission petrol tricycles.

Then there is the installation of photovoltaic panels which began in 2022: to date the interventions have affected 16 locations: the systems produce 700 thousand kWh of renewable electricity annually, partly self-consumed and partly reintroduced into the grid, generating a reduction of over 420 tons of carbon dioxide.

In company offices, the replacement of fluorescent lamps with LED lighting devices is also planned in order to reduce electricity consumption by approximately 50% and consequent savings in maintenance costs linked to the longer life in hours of the lighting fixtures. To date, 88 properties have been involved in Abruzzo, allowing an estimated saving of 465 thousand KWh per year and the reduction of CO2 emissions by approximately 400 tonnes.

“Participation in World Earth Day, established by the United Nations, is therefore promoted to increase, through a symbolic gesture, awareness of the value of nature and biodiversity supported by the Italian Post Office through various events aimed at raising awareness of good “green” practices , including M’illumino di meno and L’Ora della Terra” we read in a note.
