New changes to the Rho canteens “A balanced menu but also popular with kids”

Note from the municipal administration on the strike from the canteen service of the Deledda school

Legnano – Changes to the Rho canteens continue. Just on the day of national strike of workers in the sectorthe Administration underlines not only how the stoppage of service is caused by causes beyond its control, but reiterates the proximity to act with local schools and the students’ parents to find a menu that is sustainable, healthy, and as tasty as possible for everyone.

In fact, the municipal administration has total availability to meet the canteen committees to address any critical issues that may emerge within the ATS guidelines frameworkwhich cannot be modified either by the Municipality or by Sodexo.

Changes in the canteen

In particular, from Palazzo Podestrarile they remember how in January they were introduced into the city’s school canteens the new menus requested by ATS Milanodeveloped in the wake of national guidelines, not always appreciated by parents.

Since then, an intense dialogue has begun with the city canteen commission, the parents representing the various schools, the teaching management and Sodexo, the company that manages the service in Rho.

“ORcommon objective is to provide a menu that both balanced but also pleasant and appreciated by children. The Mediterranean diet is by no means abandoned and represents the basis of this renewed menu proposal: a greater variety of protein sources (legumes, fish and eggs) and vegetable proposals are introduced, as an alternative to meats and cold cuts, the recommended consumption of which must be content – They continue – According to the criteria indicated by ATS Milan Improvement actions are being implemented, shared with the city canteen commission on Monday 15 April, in the presence of a representative for the Deledda school. Some corrective measures that are being implemented already incorporate some improvements requested: the way in which some dishes are prepared have been modified and, for example, the new way of cook the omelettewhere it was proposed, it was much appreciated“.

On 19 April it was therefore sent to the Commissions new menu who, as far as possible, accepted the parents’ further requests. Cooking and preparation methods of dishes were therefore modified and recipes that were less popular were replaced. Some combinations of dishes or snacks were then varied to alternate the distribution of fruit. “The ultimate goal is the well-being of the children, combined with the reduction of waste“.

In line with this last objective – Repeated by the municipality – for a month the waste in some sample schools will be weighed and an evaluation of the data that emerged will then be drawn up. Discussions with parents will be intensified to map the progress of the service over time and pilot projects will start in some schools which, under the supervision of a cook and a nutritionist, will involve children in order to raise awareness among the new generations of the value of a correct nutrition.
