The mayor of Brindisi Giuseppe Marchionna and the Mayor of Children Diego Caianiello will be the exceptional starters of the XXXVII Edition of “Brindisi by bicycle”, the characteristic cycling rally scheduled in the Adriatic capital on Sunday 26 May 2024.
The cycle walk, conceived in 1975 by the late Romeo Tepore, doyen of Brindisi cycling and historical figure of the city, was presented today, Monday 22 April 2024, during a press conference held in the Sala Colonna of Palazzo Granafei-Nervegna, moderated by President of the ASD US ACLI “Fausto Coppi” of Brindisi Nico Lorusso, in the presence of the Councilor for Territorial Marketing of the Municipality of Brindisi Luciano Loiacono, of the CONI Delegate for the Province of Brindisi Mario Palmisano Romano, of the Headmaster of the Casale Comprehensive Institute Mariavittoria Caprioli, of the owner of Hitch Bike Brindisi Patrizia Pinese, of the representative of the “Amani” Cooperative of Brindisi Sabrina Topputo and of the Past President of the Asd “Fausto Coppi” of Brindisi Cosimo D’Angelo who, in various capacities, reported institutional greetings and their applause for the resumption of the initiative. During the debate, greetings were also given from the leaders of the AIDO Municipal Group – Italian Association for the donation of Tissue Organs and Cells “Marco Bungaro” of Brindisi, from the expert cycling mobility promoter certified at the University of Verona Monica Fontanive, promoter of the project ” Bici è bello”, by the US Acli Provincial President Dario Micaletti and the head of Sport and Health Maria Consilia La Corte, an organization which together with the Municipality of Brindisi sponsors the event.
During the Conference, the details and innovations of the 2024 edition were revealed and described which, as the first ever since the death of its creator with whom it spanned five decades in the history of Brindisi, will see the establishment of the 1st “Romeo” Trophy Tepore” which, paired with the XV “Mimino Blasi” Trophy, will be awarded respectively to the school with the most participants and to the group with the greatest number of cycle tourists.
Registrations, which require a contribution of €5 (including insurance for the participant) and can be made by all citizens of both sexes, starting from 7 years of age and equipped with a bicycle, will be held at Hitch Bike in Via Osanna 44/ 46. Each member, who will be asked to fill out a form signed by the parents for minors, will be given: a t-shirt (to be worn throughout the event), a collar and a card with the progressive number.
In particular, the starting line of the XXXVII Edition will be located in the stretch of Corso Garibaldi overlooking Piazza Vittorio Emanuele. The start of the event is set at 9 am on Sunday 26 May 2024, with arrival at around 11.30 am (after having made two intermediate stops yet to be identified), at the foot of the Scalinata Virgilio, where the awards ceremony will take place with the delivery of the awards, assigned with this criterion: the oldest participating bicycle, the oldest cycle tourist, the youngest cycle tourist, the 2 largest families (minimum 6 people belonging to the same family unit), the 3 largest groups, the 3 largest cycle tourists bizarre and original.
The ASD US ACLI “Fausto Coppi”, affirming the need, first and foremost for safety for all, has already paid attention, in a climate of effective collaboration, to voluntary associations for collaboration in this sense and invited all sports associations and not of the city or province specialized in the use or raising awareness of the use of bicycles, to participate in the XXXVII Edition of “Brindisi by bicycle” also from a technical perspective of compactness of the large group of participants
