Milan’s report cards: only Adli is saved, Theo and Calabria lose their heads

Matteo GABBIA 5 – Leads the three-man defense. Better on high balls. Some positioning errors. Thinking that Baresi, Maldini or Nesta were in that position, it’s impossible not to feel a sense of sadness.

Fikayo TOMORI 5.5 – He disengages as third on the left. He leaves a ball to Mkhitaryan which the Armenian does not convert. Thuram takes him for a walk on the second goal and is too light in marking. He reopens the game, he deserves half a vote more.

Yunus MUSAH 5.5 – Very willing although the quality is not excellent. As soon as he has room he puts the turbo on. Nice cross for Calabria’s turn. From 77′ Noah OKAFOR 6 – The goal arrives shortly after his entry. He tries to shake things up but doesn’t have much time available.

Yacine ADLI 6 – He never pulls his leg back. He duels on second balls also with good quality. He believes it more than anyone. From 68′ Ismael BENNACER 6 – Gives his contribution in the final assault.

Tijjani REIJNDERS 5- Usual precise geometries but it’s perhaps a little too scholastic. He goes out after the second goal conceded. From 52′ Olivier GIROUD 5 – A few headers but it now seems far from Milan.

Ruben LOFTUS-CHEEK 5 – As a midfielder he has less space to attack. As usual, he makes his great physicality count. From 68′ Samuel CHUKWUEZE 6 – The fittest man still starts from the bench. Some outbursts on the wing perhaps deserved to start from the beginning.

Theo HERNANDEZ 4.5 – He feels the game a lot and it shows. Pavard is lost on the bank for Acerbi. He tries to play the charge with his overwhelming descents. He starts the fight at the end. You wouldn’t expect such scenes from a player of his class. Such a pity.

Christian PULISIC 5 – Perhaps the most penalized by the change of module. It varies a lot but struggles to find the right position. Wasted an excellent opportunity in the area.

Rafael LEAO 5 – Deployed as first striker. At the first opportunity he finds Sommer’s answer. After Giroud’s entry he finds his usual position on the left and we see more. But tonight’s match is certainly not the Leao that Milan needs.

Coach: Stefano PIOLI 5 – In his last derby, he mirrors Inzaghi by deploying a three-man defence. A move that seems a bit like a last resort and which finds little explanation.

The team puts in its maximum effort but six consecutive derbies lost weigh like a boulder in the evaluation of his experience at Milan.
