Salvatore Baiardo candidate for mayor of Bagheria. The announcement comes from the profile of the historic name alongside that of the bosses Graviano, who has returned to the limelight for having “announced” the arrest of the boss Matteo Messina Denaro to Massimo Giletti, after thirty years of being on the run.
On Tiktok, where Baiardo has a large following, the flyer appeared with his candidacy for mayor of Bagheria, the second municipality in the province of Palermo where elections will be held on 8 and 9 June. The news sparked immediate comment from Ismaele La Vardera, vice-president of the Anti-Mafia Commission: “I am speechless, Salvatore Baiardo, one of the supporters of the Graviano bosses, is running for mayor of Bagheria? So he wrote on his TikTok. After having blocked his European candidacy, he is now trying for the municipal elections. I believe we are exceeding every limit of decency. I challenge him, if he wants, to a public confrontation right in Bagheria.”
Baiardo’s reply was also not long in coming. Through a short video he declared himself available for a political confrontation with La Vardera, without missing the opportunity to address him as a “kid” looking for “visibility”.
