TREVISO – At the beginning of the year the municipal administration sent fifteen letters of “forfeiture” which in fact revoked public housing from as many assignees “guilty” of serious shortcomings, starting with occupying apartments intended for families with very low incomes despite having a high standard of living as demonstrated, for example, by luxury cars park under the house. In five cases local police and Ca’ Sugana officials have already shown up to give execution of eviction which, however, remains a complex operation especially due to the presence of minors. No one has left the house yet, but Inter has started.

THE TARGETS

Very varied cases have therefore ended up in the administration’s sights. «There are those who haven’t paid the rent for years, who lives in public housing but drives luxury carswho does not harms or annoys neighbors. All cases examined and verified and which we can no longer tolerate – Mayor Mario Conte explained at the time of signing the measures – although the legislation governing public housing has, in certain cases, too wide a framework, we have acted by making decisions. Social housing must be put in place available to those who really need it, of those who are unable to pay rent in the free market, of families who need support. Who has the ability to buy and maintain sports cars worth tens and tens of thousands of euros can easily go and live somewhere else». And while the assignment of the apartments put up for tender continues with the latest ranking drawn up by Ater, Ca’ Sugana has the urgent need to expand its availability of immediately available apartments. «Even just three or four more accommodations are very useful in such a complicated period. If there are more, even better. But we must be equipped to provide answers to those who really need them.” The 15 sanctioned incidents were all carefully examined by the local police and concern almost all areas of the city. But the reports do not stop and other measures could arrive: «We must make it clear that there is no room for illegality. Getting to certain measures requires long journeys because things have to be done well. And we will continue on this path.”

THE PAINTING

But tension remains very high on the housing issue. Ater has 40 evictions planned by the end of the year. The last two cases saw Django activists take to the field who in one case attempted to oppose the liberation of a lady’s apartment in via Francia first by opposing the police, then by sitting down in protest on the street in front of Ca’ Sugana . In the second case, another mobilization in front of the home of a Treviso resident destined to be evicted, however, resulted in nothing because an extension was agreed. But it’s just a truce.
