BATHING WATERS IN ABRUZZO: EXCELLENT ARTICLE, BUT DOES NOT COMMUNICATE MONITORING DATA | Current news

PESCARA – With the tourist season upon us, the bathing waters of Abruzzo, along the 126 kilometers of coast, are classified as “excellent”, 11 “good”, 5 “sufficient” and only 6 “poor” for 91 monitoring points –

The data was provided by the Regional Agency for Environmental Protection (Arta) of the Abruzzo Region, of which the lawyer from L’Aquila is director Maurizio Dionisio, but only to the newspaper Il Centro, and not to all the other newspapers, with an institutional press release, as should be the duty of an agency which among its tasks has that of protecting the health of bathers, and therefore of making the most widespread information of public interest is possible, given that the analyzes concern the concentrations of intestinal Escherichia coli and enterococci, indicators of faecal contamination. And it matters little that the results of the analyzes are still inserted monthly in the “Bathing Water Portal” and on the Agency’s website www.artaabruzzo.it, which are rarely visited by ordinary citizens.

According to when we learned, the decision to favor the center was taken by the political leaders, and not by the communications office.

He explained to the Dionisio Centre, confirmed last May as head of the Agency for another five years: “monitoring is particularly important in view of the next tourist season, as it promotes the water and beaches of Abruzzo with flying colors in view of the season summer. Despite the constant improvement of the sea recorded in recent years, some critical issues are highlighted, especially near the mouths of rivers and, often, in the event of heavy rains which can compromise wastewater management systems”.

Here is how the Center correctly reports the major critical issues along the Abruzzo coast: in Pescara the stretch of the area in front of via Leopardi, in Francavilla in correspondence with via Tosti and also 350 meters south of the Alento river, in Rocca San Giovanni in the area in front of km 484.6 of State Road 16.

Then there are 3 stretches of coast prohibited for bathing for the entire season: in Ortona, 350 meters south of the mouth of the Forum and 200 meters south of the mouth of the Arielli river. In San Vito Chietino, 100 meters north of the mouth of the Feltrino river.

Finally, the “sub iudice” stretches of coast: in Pescara, in the area in front of via Leopardi, in Rocca San Giovanni, the area in front of km 484.6 of state road 16 and in Vasto, on the Cordella “Monumento alla Bagnante” seafront.
