CATANIA – The initiative organized by Sinistra Italiana/Alleanza Verdi Sinistra was held at the King cinema.

“The reasons for peace” it was the table that saw the participation of the National President of the Italian Left, Nichi Vendola, the regional secretary Pierpaolo Montalto, Anna Bucca for Arci Sicilia, Stefania Pagliazzo member of the board of “Mediterranea Saving Humans” and of the crew of the Mare Jonio and Nino De Cristofaro of the Observatory against the militarization of schools and universities.

“Wound to democracy”

“The anti-mafia has disappeared from politics – said Vendola -, from the concrete commitments of the ruling class, we are no longer concerned with analyzing and discussing the evolution of mafia phenomena and the bosses return to occupying portions of political and economic power, also relying on the crutches of transformism.

Only investigations reveal its pervasiveness of the mafia pollution of public life and in Sicily we seem to be faced with the eternal return to the scene of those men of dishonor who intervene heavily even in the electoral process, influencing the selection of those elected and causing a wound to democracy”.

“Disturbing Shadow”

In the end: “But the right is concerned with fighting the poor and migrants more than to fight the mafia, in a land where political traffic is still directed in the disturbing shadow of the Dell’Utri and Cuffaro families. They have evoked sea taxis to distract citizens from the real problems, which are lack of development and new poverty, they have tried like hyenas to pounce on those who go to sea to save their lives, they have attacked NGOs by spending millions of euros on investigations which turned out to be soap bubbles.

The truth is that it’s them, the post-fascists and the Northern League supporters who govern us, the real traffickers: traffickers of fears and lies, of truncheons and nostalgia”.
