Frost. The official announcement only confirmed what had become evident, at least for a few weeks. The spaces for political practicability have been reduced to a minimum and so the mayor Lucio Greco, faced with an emergency situation for Palazzo di Città, has decided that he will not stand for re-election. He has not identified the conditions for a project aimed at a second mandate. Is everything over for him? “Absolutely not – he explains – politics can also be done outside the city council and without sitting on the benches of the civic assembly. In fact, we can do better. Unfortunately, in the council only politics is done and in my experience at Palazzo di Città I was mainly involved in keeping the administrative machine going, already in less than optimal conditions. Indeed, I had no opportunity to interact politically with the entities of that context. I will continue, as I have done in the past.” The lawyer, five years ago, arrived in the town hall with the wind of civility which then gave him a considerable boost. The political and administrative experiment focused on the ability to align citizens and parties. The first creaks began to appear already with the farewell of the Democratic Party. Then, little by little, Mayor Greco’s council changed its structure in several phases. Last year, the Forzi supporters also left, followed later by the civic members of “Una Buona Idea”. In fact, the initial scaffolding failed and already at the start of 2019, some civic forces chose not to be part of that alliance. The attempt to approach the center-right was unsuccessful. The Cuffarians of the DC proposed a plan to bring the junta into the centre-right area: in the end nothing came of it. The official parties of that political dimension have always seen Greco as an option not to be shared. There were multiple attempts by the mayor and his political entourage. Nothing materialized, although contacts were not lacking. There were institutional discussions, both with the president of the Region Renato Schifani and with the Forzista councilor Marco Falcone.
