Research in Lombardy. Lombardy Healthcare: Lega Amendment Simplifies Research, Opinion of the Privacy Guarantor Removed
Milan, 19 April 2024 – Important news for health research in Italy, thanks to the regulatory intervention promoted by the League.
Research in Lombardy. A recent amendment to the Legislative Decree of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) introduced a significant change:
the removal of the obligation to obtain the prior opinion of the Privacy Guarantor for studies conducted by Scientific Hospitalization and Treatment Institutes (IRCCS).
The novelty reduces waiting times from 14-24 weeks to just a few days, necessary to obtain the opinion of the territorial ethics committee.
Research in Lombardy. During a recent meeting, key figures such as Emanuele Monti, President of the Welfare Commission of the Lombardy Region and member of the Italian Medicines Agency, together with League senator Simona Loizzo, promoter of the amendment, discussed the impacts of this modification.
Also present were Marco Baccanti, General Director of the FITT Innovation and Technology Transfer Foundation, Claudio Cogliati, President of the IRCCS of Monza, and Giorgio Bozzini, member of the IRCCS Besta board of directors.
Research in Lombardy. Monti underlined the importance of “removing bureaucracy and improving research in our country”.
He also highlighted Lombardy’s leading role in pharmaceutical production in Europe and the need to strengthen research and innovation.
This legislative change aims to facilitate research by reducing bureaucratic obstacles and speeding up the study approval process, which is essential for progress in the healthcare sector.
The change aims not only to improve efficiency but also to maintain high standards of safety and ethics in research.
