Save the historic “bunker”: «It must be renovated and enhanced» – Turin News

At first glance it seems like just a forgotten ruin but, with a little curiosity, you can discover a real one monument historic, apparently, in a state of abandonment despite the redevelopments that have affected Rebaudengo in recent years. Hence the appeal that the 6th District launched to the Municipality of Turin asking them to “consider the restoration of the anti-aircraft shelters in Corso Romania”.

The proposal came from the group leader of Forza Italia, Luciano Speranzawhich had the Council approve a document focused on the recovery of these important historical artefacts, abandoned to themselves in a green area near the Auchan supermarket.

«These are finds that should be recovered and valorised, perhaps by placing an information plate on their history and a board with archive photos, so as to allow everyone to discover their origins – says Speranza -, these shelters are part of the history of Turin , and the Municipality has the possibility of returning them to the citizens in better conditions than the current ones”.

The shelters in question are located in the area adjacent to To Dream, and were built during the Second World War to guarantee the safety of the workers of Snia Viscosa, a factory that gave work to tens of thousands of Turin residents during the 1900s; today, after i bombings and decades spent in a state of abandonment, present a sad and degraded appearance, which the decentralization body hopes will improve following a redevelopment intervention.

«Following the works for To Dream, the shelters were made safe by the Municipality with the positioning of a metal door, but this is certainly not a sufficient intervention – continues Speranza -, restoring them to their old splendor could also allow younger people to learn history in a dynamic and direct way, rather than just reading it in books.” The Municipality will now have to evaluate the times and costs of a possible restoration intervention, perhaps to be financed with Pnrr funds, so as to preserve the historical and cultural value of the artefacts.
