It was 2016 when at the Teatro Comunale of Bologna, during the staging of the Rigoletto directed by Renato Palumbo and directed by Alessio Pizzech, shooting of the film began Opera Mundi. The water it is in fact the first of the four elements, with fire, earth and air, which accompany the acts of the film, structured in four movements as in the opera, the attack, the adagio, the half time and the cabaletta.
The probe and the “message in a bottle”
In the 100 minutes of the film the Pioneer 11 probesent many years ago beyond the boundaries of the solar system, unexpectedly ago return on planet Earth. It guards one platea message in bottle to tell humanity about unknown inhabitants of other worlds. In the meantime, Rigoletto is being performed at the theatre mysterious children that manifest themselves behind the scenes. They are the theater spirits, with their curious gaze turned outwards.
To that city that becomes a composition of many places, of the soul and of memory.
The projection
A game of references to reveal that a nineteenth-century work still speaks about us. On stage Rigoletto, Gilda and the Duke of Mantua they intertwine their voices singing their drama of passion, betrayal and death. Behind the scenes the theater workers participate in the construction of the representation while outside the daily routine of life flows. After being distributed on Netflix in Europe and on Amazon in the USA and Great Britain, 7 years after the first take, the film will be screened as a national preview on Tuesday 23rd, at 9pm. A message of peace
In Gilda’s sacrifice, underlines the director born in Rimini in 1966, «Rigoletto takes us to reflect on death and its meaning. The evening comes to darken, but a new one light helps us, a saving light that has always inhabited humanity. This is why I believe that the film is, ultimately, a message of peace, what humanity desperately needs right now.”
«Timeless themes that belong to humanity»
A message that pushed Angelini to collaborate with the intercultural and interreligious network Portico of Peace. In fact, part of the proceeds from the screening will be donated to the association. Each act of the film, concludes the director of Paris, Dabar and I Met Magnus, «explores themes foundations of the work and more generally of art. Timeless themes that belong tohumanity. Through the staging of Rigoletto, he narrates the theater from the inside, the life that acts it, but also what is outside the theater. It is an emotional journey that talks about a theater immersed in reality and a reality that manifests itself through theatre. The singing accompanies the journey and the musical part, in addition to Rigoletto, makes use of the Children’s choirwith arias taken from the operas Macbeth, NabuccoThe triumph of Clelia, Parsifal, Cavalleria Rusticana and Joan of Arc by Giuseppe Verdi.
