“Nauticinblu”: the Marevivo project that trains future sea experts arrives at the Civitavecchia nautical institute

Starting again this year, atLuigi Calamatta Nautical Institute of Civitavecchiathe environmental education project “NauticinBlu”, promoted by Marevivo and now in its seventh edition, with the consolidated support of the MSC Foundation of the MSC Group.

The goal is to integrate and strengthen the knowledge of students of Nautical Institutes on the complex relationship between economic growth, ecological transition and maintenance of natural balances: it is essential, today more than ever, to invest in the potential of these boys and girls as the main supporters and advocates of change, because they will be the future operators of the sea.

In this regard, the schools involved in the project will host the Marevivo exhibition “Only One: One Planet, One Ocean, One Health”, created in collaboration with the Italian navy and the Dohrn Foundation; an educational path on panels that illustrates the fundamental points of an effective ecological transition and explains how it can be implemented.

This year, “NauticinBlu” it will involve 20 Italian Nautical Institutes and will also arrive abroad, in schools in Portugal, Spain and Greece. In particular, at the Luigi Calamatta Nautical Institute of Civitavecchia, thanks to the availability of the Director Giovannina Corvaia, Prof. Paolo Lombardo and the teachers Cinzia Barretta and Simona Tua, the very young people will be engaged in a full immersion on the most urgent issues related to the environment and the sea.

Yesterday morning, students were welcomed by the port authorities for a guided visit to the Operations Room of the Regional Maritime Rescue Center of the Coast Guard and to the Naval Base of the Coast Guard units of Civitavecchia, at the Darsena Romana, while today the appointment is in class to talk about ecological transition, circular economy and marine protected areas.
On the morning of Monday 22 April, however, on the occasion of Earth Day, students and operatorsthey will freefrom waste the free beach of the Castle of Santa Severacarrying out monitoring, data collection and disposal, according to local regulations.

The commitment of Marevivo, and of the partnership with MSC Foundation for this project, is to provide the new Generation Z with the tools necessary to be the creators of changebecoming the example of the cultural innovation necessary to make the present more equitable and the future more sustainable. In all these years of the project, the young people involved have reclaimed a total of 90 beaches in Italy and collected around 4,000 kg of plastic and other waste.
